I installed the MPE a couple of weeks ago. It's significantly louder than stock. The volume level reminds me of my MPE on my old e92. Cold start is loud! There's no way to get around that. On throttle no matter what mode, it's got way more volume than stock. It also burbles and cracks letting off throttle. It doesn't drone and just cruising down the highway it's not invasive at all. I don't like the tone though, it's got the dreaded weed whacker tone. It just doesn't suit the X5 to me. I was hoping for something tonally like the m40i which sounds great. I'm going back to the stock exhaust...bummer.

Ah well, sorry to hear that. Appreciate the review. Was thinking about that myself. Ended up going with a catted downpipe two weeks ago. A bit louder and bit deeper tone ( I think)....I dig it. May cut out front muffler and straight pipe it just to see how it sounds.

OK, here's a quick clip my girlfriend shot just to give you a taste. Cold start and rolling out. Cold start is a little too loud for me. If I could quiet it down I'd probably leave it on. Sorry no in cabin videos. No problem hearing it in the cabin though.

No, I can't really notice a difference in volume level between comfort and sport modes. What I notice are more burbles in sport.

Amazing what we can do with our cameras! Thank you. Well done video. I'm still partial to getting it (when I get a car!). In my Dinan 540 from '02, and my current '12 S4 - the exhausts have been as much fun as the 'chips' (Milltek and AWE).

From your vid, I think I know what you mean about the weed whacker sound. Cold start sounds good tho.

If you used awe, this might sound little aggressive... less drone than awe....

So now BMW told me there is a tune that comes with it that will increase the deep tone, burble, upshift/downshift pops and all that good stuff (basically a MPPSK). They said they'll do it for me if I buy the exhaust from them, so hopefully ends up sounding nice. I just sold my 2020 C43AMG W/ active exhaust and miss that dramatic entrance lol

Is there any "confirmed": crackle and pop/burble with the MPE? It seems that not a lot of people had this piece upgraded (on youtube)

I have it installed with a catless downpipe. It sounds really good. It does have a pop/burble when switching gears.

FloridaM5 Curious if you ever ended up removing the front muffler - how did it sound paired with your catted downpipe?

Did the car actually needed a tune? Never heard of an MPPSK for the X5. 3er, sure, X5 not so much.

Interesting mine has sound like this from the beginning I never knew that it had a m performance until I looked at my invoice. I was kind of wanting a little louder. Maybe it’ll change when I install my active aw catted downpipe.
