Touch Screen Option Credit Coming?

Just talking with my local sales manager. He mentioned that this week touch screens are removed from X5's. Don't know which models. Didn't ask too much about it but I was shocked. Anyone heard anything about this? I guess it means iDrive knob control only. I dont use my touch screen, but this seems like a big deal.

Again, I haven't seen or confirmed anything, but he knows his stuff well.

Hope it doesn't affect anyone here.

Update: Apparently this started for week 43 builds and is projected into week 45 with no end date. cal bears has confirmed that this will be affecting 3, 4, 4 GC, Z4, X5, X6, and X7.

Looks like it's true. Just checked a 40i and has a $500 credit for the deletion of the touch screen (currently in production)

Also 45es in production

And M50is

Yea, didn't want it to be true. I think this is going to bother a lot of people.

No idea yet on how long this is planned.

I wonder if the X5M will also lose out on this.

I'll find out when our next X5 M goes into production (week 49)

My 45e is in production now. I hope I'm not caught up in this. It feels like a thousand little cuts... no upgraded stereo... no wireless charging... no rear cargo seat releases... now, possibly, no touchscreen. I was able to accept all the other issues, but this one would be tougher—having used CarPlay in a car without a touchscreen (2018-ish Audi) and with a touchscreen (2020 Ford), it's a dramatically different experience with the touchscreen.

I think most will feel how you are.

I was an iDrive embracer from day 1 back in 2001/2002. It has always come natural to me. So when BMW added the touch screen ability, I did not use it. My first use of CarPlay was with the iDrive controller. But I mainly don't use the touch screen because I hate fingerprints.

I know that even having said that, if my build had Touchscreen removed, it would just bother me knowing it should have been there (used or not).

This...definitely makes me reconsider things, if my X5 arrives without a touch screen I'm not entirely sure it's going to be the car for me.

I have an inquiry into my dealer as my m50i is "production started" too. I DID notice I am now missing "backup assistant" - see https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1869929

Same. My 45e is also in Production Begins status (as of 10/19) and also shows that "Deletion of Backup Assistant" line. It does not have a line that states anything about removing the touch-screen, so hopefully it's one of the last ones with it.

I'm with the rest of you. Fog lights, wireless charging, nice audio systems, remote seat releases, backup assistant, laminated front glass, and now the damn touch-screen functionality. If anything else gets deleted, I might just decline to buy it.

Is the Driving assistant professional package dropped too? I see it no longer shows up on my order.

Yikes! I hope not. I refuse to buy a $70,000+ car without adaptive cruise and such.

Drivers Assistance Pro is still listed on my car in the myBMW portal. But my car is already in "Production Begins" status.

Hopefully, it's just a mistake for you. I would call or text your salesperson and ask if BMW logistics removed that feature, or if it just mistakenly got removed or was never added to your specific order. And do it soon, because once the car goes into "Production Begins" status (which could be soon if it gets bumped up a couple of weeks), you'll be unable to correct any mistakes.

Hey everyone, this is my first post. I've been following this forum since I put in an order for an X5 xdrive45e a few weeks ago (production started this week - week 44). This topic caught my eye because I was given my financing quote yesterday and noticed $500 was "quietly" docked from the MSRP I was originally quoted.

I called my SA this morning in regards to this and asked him if it was because the touch screen was deleted. He was vague in his answers and told us he only learned about it a couple of days ago, and we won't know if the touch screen will be included until we are in the latter half of the tracking process.

I was very reluctant about not having the option for premium audio, but no touch screen will definitely be a deal breaker for me (which I expressed to my SA). It just doesn't make sense to spend 80k on a modern luxury car without standard/luxury features....

I guess the next questions, then, are:

a) When's the cutoff production date for the touchscreen deletion? And how does someone whose order is in production know if theirs does or does not have the touchscreen? Mine has been in "Production Begins" since 10/19. I have a line item for "Deletion of Backup Assistant," but not one for the deletion of the touchscreen. So, hopefully mine has it. But if the touchscreen was deleted, that's not readily apparent to me at this time.

b) For a unit that doesn't have the touchscreen, can it be retrofitted? Can you just buy a used touchscreen assembly/bezel from a salvage outfit and install it to get back that functionality, plug-and-play style? Or will BMW have changed the harnesses or hardware such that it's prohibitively expensive to add back the touchscreen? I suppose time will tell on that one.

I hope so Waiting for SA to get back, but if touch screen is gone then i’d have to seriously consider if this is worth moving forward.

I'm with you. My SA just texted me this morning and said he was visiting family overseas, so I don't want to bug him. But when he gets back--if that's before my car is finished--I'll ask him to look and see if it's one of the ones with the deleted touch-screen.

Yep, same. If I get any significant deletions, I'll be asking for more than the credit off MSRP.

Depending on what the options are, I might just back out of the sale.

That's what I did on my X5M. Build week was this upcoming week. I just cancelled.

My 45e just hit quality check and it has all options as ordered. M Sport, Exec,Driver Assistant Pro, Parking Assistant, 4 Zone Climate, Heated Seats and all standard features showing. It started production Oct 12. It still has all options in the my garage. Where is it showing that they have been deleted etc?

Edit: Actually just noticed "Deletion of back up assistant"

I think it would be for any cars that started production in this current build week. That's for no touch screen. Is it tied to backup assistant? Not sure. That could be a separate deletion.

The Build Weeks confuse me. What week was October 19?

I believe we are in week 43. Oct 19 is week 42. Remember that your build week is considered the week your car rolls off the line completed.
