Lightbulb Elon Musk worth How Much???

Daaaaaaaaaaamn..... More than Zuckerberg and Larry Page (Amazon) combined!
An eye watering: $244,000,000,000 😳

So much for the "Electric Cars won't ever work" nonsense.

I would think that no one needs that much money, but he deserves what he's earned. It's a very subjective topic and none of us are in a position to dictate what another person needs or deserves. He's certainly changed the course of the auto industry, which is a good thing.

My sentiments exactly. A person deserves every penny they have earned. Everyone may not like the guy, but respect must be given. History changing.

Certainly... as long as it wasn't done on the taxpayer's dime and his working conditions are good.

Unfortunately neither neither of which apply here.

Wouldn't his SpaceX model, compared to United launch technologies, be a great model for defense contractors? Wouldn't that help the taxpayer?

I will give Elon the fact that SpaceX is indeed far more privately funded than say Bezos blue origin but... where do these profits come from? Obviously only Tesla can fund this...

Consider this... Elon's business was mainly built on massive tax incentives from the federal government and later on a massive incentive from the state of CA.

When it came down to paying dues? Elon moved himself and his business to TX.. a state that wouldn't charge him taxes... now he is the richest man on Earth.

Something about that doesn't sit right with me...

Many would say he is doing what's best for his business... well sure, and this is why you can't find workers anywhere now and everything is a shit show because everyone did what's best for their business...

Is it illegal?

Maybe I just dislike the government more than I do douchy billionaires. If you don't like that he legally used incentives offered by the government for that purpose maybe you should be upset at the government for offering them in the first place. I mean I don't know the exact incentives he used but my guess is they were offered to try to promote the growth of electric vehicles.... I would say he has totally succeeded in that goal. So the government got their monies worth.

Don't get me wrong. I think he has also over promised and underdelivered in a lot of other things, but that's a different topic.

If Tesla and the EV follow-ons DO save the planet; isn't $244B worth it?

he owed the state of California to STAY there, and give back to the community that helped him to get where he is. But............you ask is it legal?

So CA gives Tesla money to develop EVs and Tesla pretty much single handedly brings about the EV market of which CA is probably one of the biggest consumers. Now according to your moral compass Tesla is beholden to CA for the rest of it's life, no matter what CA does, no matter if they try to shut him down, he is now morally obligated to stay in CA.

California....

Even Hollywood left California and outsourced movie production to other states and countries (Canada to name one) because of California bureaucracy. Don't give Musk shit. If anything, California started the shitshow.

Exactly. Google CARB. Then ASAP get back to us and tell us who really started the EV market...

So many strange opinions in this thread! Immoral, using people to get where he is, taking incentives, and all the rest. This could be multiple threads in the old politics section!

But for Musk, remember that he had PayPal before anyone knew what that could become, and Tesla, and the rest. So he didn’t get rich from Tesla, that was a multiplier of a prior success. I’m not a fan of his, but I do admire his vision and aggressiveness in getting things done.
