Launch Control X5
When do guys do Launch Control for G05 40i? Right after break in 1200miles / 2000 km? Or a bit later? Curious to know as I wanted to try it after break in

I waited after 2500 miles only because I put all those miles on my X5 on a family road trip. I am still waiting in my new M2C until it gets its mandatory “M Car” break-in fluid change at 1200 miles. It’s been a monster even with keeping it below 5k rpms. I would give a new X5 to 1200 miles as BMW feels this is when a full M car is ready for full power.

I tried it right at 1,200 miles.
While I didn't do it, I bet you could do launch control much earlier and have no adverse effects. 1,200 miles is the longest recommended break-in period of any vehicle I've owned. I am betting that is very conservative. |

Although I leased it, I feel guilty using launch control before the recommended break-in period. Is that weird?

Launch control?
'Plus, with Launch Control, your BMW will reach maximum acceleration from a standing start. Give the Dynamic Stability Control button one short press, set the gear lever into position ‘S’, depress the brake firmly and kick down the accelerator pedal – now release the brakes and find out what torque really means.' |

Does it hurt the engine/transmission? If you weren't leasing the car, would you still attempt to launch it?

It won't, like, make your engine explode or anything. I just see no reason to do it if that's what the manual says.
However, there are also plenty of people who drive it like they stole it from day one, and haven't had any issues. For me, it's simply about minimizing risk, so I've chosen to follow the instructions per the manual. |

I haven't yet tried the actual launch mode but I can say the acceleration in Sport+ mode when floored is so violent it might make you dizzy or faint.

There are 3 theories of the case here:
(1.) The Dirty Oil Boys There's gonna be shavings & etc cuz new engine which can harm your engine so no high rpm stuff and no constant rpm stuff for > 20 min (2.) The Lawyers-Suck Crew Naw, that shit's only there cuz the highest probability of part failure is during the first 1200 miles so BMWNA attorneys don't want you doing a high-speed run when their parts fail (cuz parts aren't spec'd to zero failure tolerance, so some are gonna fail!), much better if you're coasting in a cotton field. (3.) The Renegades It's all bullshit cuz BMW test-cells the engines before they go into the car, they dyno some of cars in the factory, and they test drive every car that rolls outa the factory so the engines are already broken in so fuck that imma lay down tracks out da dealership. |
