No M package- Deal breaker?

Obviously very subjective, but I am super particular about my cars. I swore I wouldn't get a car without the M package but in this market, it's hard to be picky.

I found what I think is a good deal on an X5 50i. 2019 with 2.5 years left on warranty (sold Feb 2020). Checks all the boxes (carplay, LED, HUD, Live cockpit pro, Comfort seats, 20" wheels, sub 20k miles, etc), except no M package and vented seats (I can deal with that).

Before I do it, is my understanding is correct- it's a purely cosmetic package (different bumper, side skirts, steering wheel and painted rear bumper)? Nothing functional?

The best deal I can find for a 2019+ with the TTv8 and M package is $7500 more and it has 6k more miles on it.

Thanks in advance!

So the adaptive is what lets you adjust via magnetic shocks (I've had this in several other cars from different manufacturers) and it can instantly get soft/stiff.

Dynamic Handling Package is only available with MSport and only on the 50i -- make sure that is not important for you.

So I think I solved my own problem by saying yolo and going for this one.

I says it has "S2VF Adaptive M Chassis" so I assume that's the adaptive suspension?

S2NH M Sport Brake - was there a brake upgrade option?

Yes. 2NH is the Blue painted caliper. There is also a Red option (at least on 2022s).

I'm a recent "convertee" to both 22"s and the Red M Sport brake calipers which comes with the M Sport package (in Australia)...

To answer your question, no M Sport package would definitely be a deal breaker!

Is "S2VF Adaptive M Chassis" the adaptive suspension or something else?

I think I found a winner.

2VF is. Not sure about the "S" part, maybe just a typo?

Def a deal breaker for me. From mid-2000 to present, I can't even recall a BMW that I would say looks good without M-Sport

Not a dealbreaker for me - actually just saw a really sharp looking X5 this evening - dark gray and nice wheels work for me. But you found a beautiful one. Enjoy!

Looks nice. Hopefully you got it for close to $60k as it's 2019 and close to 20k mileage.

No chance. I think the cheapest 2019 I could find was $65k (under 20k miles). No M package. Few options.
This was 68k.

That's really high in my opinion although the car market is crazy now. I think you can order a brand new for around that price plus you get brand new 2022.

50i?

I built one to this spec and it was 94k iirc.

I looked and called all over. The only ones cheaper than this had at least an accident on the carfax or some sketchy dealer with markups or something.

Used car market is crazy out there and it’s going to get worse.

All US model X5s xLine and M Sports come standard with electronic damper controlled suspensions - sDrive40i, xDrive40i, xDrive45e (electronic damper controlled air suspension), xDrive50i, M50i.

Only difference between the standard xLine electronic damper and 2VF Adaptive M Sport which included on M Sport packages is the software damping rates. The shocks, struts (air struts for 45e) passive roll bars on all identical across xLine and M Sport sDrive and xDrive 40i models.

Standard, Adaptive M and Adaptive M Pro uses traditional steel springs and shocks whereas air suspension uses air spring struts.

Two-Axle Air Suspension
The optional self-levelling two-axle air suspension maximizes ride comfort. The suspension's air supply is controlled individually for each wheel using an electrically driven compressor with pressure reservoir, enabling it to balance out an unevenly loaded vehicle. Since the air suspension works in tandem with the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system, the vehicle load registered by its sensors can be factored into braking calculations. Above 86 mph and in Sport mode, the suspension is automatically lowered by about 0.8 inches; in off-road terrain, it can be raised by up to around 1.6 inches. For loading it can be lowered by around 1.6 inches at the touch of a button. Overall, this means that ride height can be varied by up to approximately 3.2 inches.

Adaptive M Suspension (included in M Sport Package)
Adaptive M Suspension (2VF) is now included with M Sport Package for all models. This suspension enhances the standard suspension by providing variable suspension and damping characteristics which can be adjusted through the driving experience control switch.

Dynamic Handling Package - Adaptive M Suspension Professional
The X5 is even more agile to drive with the Adaptive M Suspension Professional, which complements Integral Active Steering with anti-roll stabilization to reduce body roll in bends, enabling both more dynamic and more flatter cornering. The roll stabilization system employs electric swivel motors to enable remarkably swift and precise compensation of body roll under dynamic cornering. This increases agility and directional stability when turning into corners and helps optimize traction when accelerating out. The system has the additional effect of increasing straight-line driving comfort by actively countering the vibrations triggered by bumps on one side of the road.
