I confirmed the HTML hex code for red as FE, 00, 00 allows the two LED lights nearing the reading lights to function as normal. FE, 00, 00 equates RGB 254, 0, 0. It appears any value maxed in the RGB spectrum (255) causes a glitch with the BMW DME that shuts off the splash LEDs near the sunroof controler. 254 R is the same to the eye, so you will never notice. I will update the original post.

*Note... for anyone creating custom colors, you should not use any HTML hex code with the value FF. Substitute FE for the FF part of the HTML hex code and it will look exactly the same but won’t affect the overhead splash LEDs that shine on the shifter area.

Perfect. Good teamwork to move this project forward. I will make the change to FE0000 / RGB 254/0/0 tonight and report back.
Indeed! I should have some time to test tomorrow or Friday. I'm curious if the other person fixed it by going FE or if they had to mix in 1% or 1 step of green or blue (or whatever color LEDs weren't in use).

My opinion (I know quite a bit about the color wheel and color grading) is that we are best going 254 red versus adding G or B. Both could trick the eye a bit and I want red. 🙂

I just noticed that by doing the bronze colour to red and bronze/white to the blue/red combo, my green/white has also changed to a red/combo. How can I fix that?

Also, I set it to the FF combo and everything seems to be working for me, should I still recode it to the FE value

Using the FF codes works fine with the LEDs - what you'll notice is that the small LED by the sunroof controls will not shine, or won't shine the right color. Safe to just code it the the FE variants. You will not notice the difference and you know it will work the way you want it to.

I would make the change. It is easy to do and be done with.

So true about many other items including greater HUD customization choices.

What color code would you input to completely turn off one of the led strips? I would like to turn off the lower dash lighting. The one that runs just below the trim and vents. Is that possible?

I don't think you can disable the one by itself. It seems like different LED's are connected together. Turning that off would probably turn off another.

Still don't understand why BMW has not allowed to edit these profiles in iDrive. It's possible and something a $100000 car should do, especially when the competiion does.

Found the RGB Hex code online, and programmed away. Thank you for the great write up 130FD!
Next trick : save different color schemes to different driver profiles. For any of you who ever swap off driver duties with the same car, with different key fobs / driver seat memory settings, it'd be a nice touch to have it coded to your significant other's preferences when he/she is driving vs yours when you're driving.

Perhaps, but the good husbands who like to tinker (and want to bank a bit of goodwill for later, inevitable fuckups) will do it.

000000 should be "black", I guess.

If it was me, I would try changing the bronze to 00, 00, 00 and then change things like I did, then code. Check the bronze, bronze and see what it looks like. If it is all black, then you can make it happen.

This would work on any G05, correct? Doesn't need to have certain packages or be a certain trim?
