HK Sound Sys Replaced with HI-FI Sound...PNP Upgrade Recommendations?

Assuming you have the 676 HiFi, you definitely want the UP7DSP/MEC, UP 7BMW will not work. The MEC part allows the under-seat subs to work with the amp. I verified this with the Audiotech US distributor.

Re your old amp rack... yeah it looks a bit antiquated. I'm looking at the MUSWAY MW1000A for the trunk. I just started restoring a vintage MC so I'm not sure when I'll get around to it.

I have the 676 HiFi system and upgraded the front, rear, center speakers with IS BMW 100L, IC BMW 100L and ICC BMW 100 respectively and the difference is very noticeable in my opinion. We can get these for ~$600.

The HiFi speakers/tweeters are 10w max each, in comparison.

Upgrading the subwoofers next.

Hey all... Its ALOT going on in this thread with everybody recommending different things. For the 22 X6 with HIFI, what do you guys recommend that's pretty simple and straight forward? I just want a decent upgrade for louder speakers and stronger bass. If I can get the sound equivalent to how it is in my GV80 im fine.

That has not been my experience but this can also be subjective.

I don’t listen to it super loud most of the time. I am really just looking for clarity, but loud enough to feel it from time to time.

Did some more checking and comparing. Looks like the Match UP7DSP + MEC Analog In module give it 2 more speaker level inputs for the total of 6, up from standard 4 present in Match UP7BMW. But the same module could be used for UP7BMW as well... so it just seems that the only reason why UP7DSP is the "preferred" one is that it is sold as a package w/the MEC Analog Module, which could have as easily be plugged into the UP7BMW amp, but Crutchfield doesn't sell that as a package. Otherwise the amps seem identical in specs and inputs. Maybe except the sensitivity voltage on the inputs is also a little diff on the DSP amp. Not sure that part makes that much of a difference, but whatever. The main thing seems to be the MEC module.

What sort of freaks me out is that this is not a "clean" install. You use the stock BMW HiFi amp (676) speaker outs to drive the Match UP7* amp... from an audiophile perspective this is dirty. In practice, depending on the quality of the components it may be OK, but awesomeness this is not. So basically we are gaining power, but are only amplifying the distortions and adding the Match UP7* device distortion on top. This sucks... not sure I see an alternative that I'd like to entertain though.

So from what I've read in this thread. I think im going to go with the BAVSOUND speakers alone first and go from there. Wasn't really trying to spend thousands on the FOCAL but if it comes down to it I may have no choice. Thats one thing I give Mercedes, their Burmester system is impeccable.

The full compliment of Focal speakers is ~$600, excluding the subwoofers if upgrading the HiFi system.

Bought them from a European distributor, I think they should but you may want to confirm.

I'm very pleased with my Bavsound speakers, and I did not do the subs. They are less inefficient than the OEM, therefore I need to crank up the volume more, but I don't listen to really loud music, so it's a nice improvement in clarity and definition. The bass is adequate too.

FWIW, Audiotec has a volume based subwoofer enhancer that is really good for those who don't listen to music loud. My wife liked it. I had it enabled but it ultimately disabled it since it was too much at the volumes I listen when I'm alone.

It bothered me as well for a while... got over it... all smiles now with everything installed... sounds very good for a $2k system! Another $500 buys a Musway MW1000A powered sub for that final punch to round things out. Like a lot of things, incremental quality comes at an increasing rate of cost.

As a few other members have done, I ordered a set of Focal Inside speakers to replace the flat sounding OEM speakers. They shipped this morning from Germany so I will probably be doing the upgrade on the weekend of the 9th.
I plan to do some before and after measurements using a spectrum analyzer app.
Not ideal, but I probably can't haul one of the units in from work...
If I get some good data, I will post.

That "Musway MW1000A" looks very interesting... not sure the bastardized under deck trun storage in the 45e will be adequate but if you have the real trunk it should work. Curious how it sounds, especially through the trunk deck lid. Its an 11" sub in a tiny alluminum enclosure. Can't say I've ever tried.

Speakers shipped on Monday from Germany and were delivered before 2pm two days later.
