I know it's not a full headlight tint, but since German DOT laws are super strict I was planning on adding a black vinyl "eyelid" over the chrome part, just above the blinker to help tone down the headlights. Think X7 style.
Theres a company in Russia named FERZ Design that actually sells painted eyelids, but I haven't gotten updated pics, and from the one I did receive, it looks uneven. Pic attached for reference.

hiya bud ...
i had both the front & rear tinted, but changed my mind about the rear, so had those taken off. i REALLY like the tints when the lights are on ... they look moody! and, they tie in with the tinted headlights on the new M3 / M4 i'm less keen on the tints when the lights themselves are off - i just prefer the non-tinted look when i walk back to my car. probably being too fussy!! few pics so you can see for yourself, and decide whether the look is for you ...

this is more of a light smoke, rather than a dark tint ... just enough to make it look cool, which is the intention, but certainly not enough to compromise safety.

Actually 20% is the amount that gets through. That's an 80% reduction which is insane

i asked the shop what level of tint wouldn't compromise safety ... and they told me. pretty simple really.

Ok, so maybe it's the other way around ... i'm not an expert, so i asked the shop and they told me the %. i assumed 20% meant 20% of the light getting through now doesn't. all i can say is that IN MY OPINION it's looks cool - if other disagree, that's fine with me, i'm not trying to convince anyone - and i asked the shop to put a light smoke on the headlights but not to take any saftey risk, and they advised the smoke that i opted for ... pretty simple really. driving around at night i get a perfectly good lighting from the headlamps, so i'm quite happy with the tints.

Maybe across the pond it's the other way around. Here in the states the number means the percentage of light that gets through. So it sounds like yours would be rated 80 here in the states. I would think that is not a safety issue and I agree it looks good.

I'll agree it looks cool.
But really, lets think a little on this. No shop on either side of the pond can tell you what tint reduction will not compromise safety; that's not measurable - they pulled a number out of their ass. Did they really measure the output reduction, did they see how far the beam now goes - I'm sure the answer is no. You would alter the factory output of the lights for visual aesthetics, and have potentially reduced your visual acuity driving at night or adverse conditions, as well as your ability to be seen during the day since daytime driving lights are required. There is a reason that people love the LED laser lights; they are brighter and the beam travels farther providing more ability to light and see what is on the road. Why would you not want a brighter beam at night? Would you rather grab a dim flashlight or a bright flashlight in the middle of the night for an emergency? While accidents are rare, get into an accident at night or poor driving conditions a good lawyer will have a field day with tinted headlights, good luck convincing a jury that the shop said that a "dimmer headlight doesn't compromise safety". If the shop says its safe to drive on your bald tires too would you believe them? A car that comes factory spec with a tinted headlight is very different than you altering the factory spec that has meet safety standards.
