Let’s keep this in the perspective in the big picture of BMW land with much larger design concerns like the new M3/M4. Honestly, this X5 limited edition is heads and shoulders better looking and more iconic BMW than the vision BMW has of their latest “M cars”. Concerned about grille colors on a very limited edition, low volume model is like arranging deck chairs on the Titanic in the grand scheme of infractions in “M Town” for new models.

^^^^^^^Couldn't be said much better than this. Actually the red accents look cool on a black car.

Thank goodness there are only 350 planned in the US. My odds are I will never have to be exposed to one of these turd flies on the road and impact on parts needed for the remaining production line will be insignificant.

In my opinion:

I like the red piping on the seats and that wooden trim with the inlays is very nice. Reminds me of tire tracks!

The red grille on the other hand...

This "edition" seems very gimmicky and reminds me of the "black fire" edition the F85 had in it's final year to drum up sales for an outgoing product.

stupid grille, but easily rectifiable with a gloss black OEM grille for a couple hundred. The black frozen sexy, HOWEVER, that paint will be literally impossible to blend and match if there is ever a need to fix a panel. Blending will always make it gloss.

Why not put KITH logos all over it while you're at it. I'm sure the hoodie crowd will gush all over it...

Yeah. I agree. The grill is polarizing. I bet however, one can easily sell it for a premium on eBay and just get the shadow line grill.

However, the fact that BMW is putting this special edition on their lowest line vs the top says something. A couple of pictures shows M50i, but the press release says 40i only.

The rest of the package looks pretty cool. Although one can buy a fully loaded 40i and add all the M Performance trims and get to this price point…

Oh, goody, another black on black on black option. Apparently one can’t have enough of those.

BMW is suffering from illiteracy in it's new design language.

Thanks for ruining a great design. BMW is messed up these days.
