4/5 days dealer prep on delivered vehicle?

Bottom line up front..Does 4/5 days at the dealer after delivery sound right?

-Ordered 7.23.2021
-Built 9.2.2021
-In transit since 9.3.2021
-Scheduled to arrive @ Oxnard 9.24 - it didn't, or genuis couldn't see it had as of 10.4
*Lots of rail freight containers at work. They do disappear/reappear like this all the time.
-Status chx's: In transit, at port, in transit, at dealership - all in the last 24 hrs.
-Arrived at dealer 10.5 (sounds like after hrs)
-Ready for pickup 10.9 or 10.10

Why would they need to keep a sold vehicle for that long?

Mystery solved. SA on vacation all week. Hadn't thought to factor that into the delivery timeline.

I've had that occur over the years and I always ask for another CA to do the delivery on the day I like. Like the day after it arrived.
Each time, I got a CA do the delivery who was very courteous and professional.

Little off-topic, but PDI itself takes an hour or two max.

Every BMW Ive ordered is ready by 10AM if it was delivered the night before.

Your salesperson is handing you off to finance, then to the Genius if you want/need. Anyone can do that if your CA isnt around.

Yeah... thanks guys. What I figured.

-No eta from the dealer
-No notification the vehicle arrived
(Was told to expect both while ordering)
-Now being told to wait wed-sat because they're "shorthanded and it takes time to unwrap and wake up electronics". That is what I was told.

Not very cool.

I've read in other threads folks specifically ask the dealer for certain conditions for delivery such as leaving all protective adhesives on, leaving all plastic liners in place, no washing, etc. This can speed up delivery and prevent incidental damage by the dealership. i plan to do this on my wife's next bimmer

Same day for me. He called to say car came in the night before and it was ready for pick up by the time I drove to get it. In fact he called me as I was driving there to see what time I would arrive as it was ready to go. Great experience overall.

That's absurd. You needed your SA to be there to take delivery? Give me my car!

Not me, I'll let them touch it. More specifically my dealer said he'll give me a full charge and full tank, so I expect a 1 day turnaround

Price of any new car includes full tank of gas and battery charged, if applicable. Your dealer is 'giving' you nothing.

Sounds like it could be this. Same store had the gf's '21 x3 m40i in for work recently, said they did seem really busy.

Not worried about it as long as it's there tomorrow.

While true, a lot of times another sales person will do it and then take half of the deal. That's shitty. In the end, what's a couple of days wait?

This is absolutely true for most dealers

If you figure some CAs are making a flat per unit of $300-500/car, splitting it with another CA hurts their pocket pretty bad.
