Tow package available for '22 G05?
I've clicked through the build your own option on the BMW site several times, and I don't see a factory tow package offered for the X5 xDrive40i.
Does anyone know if it is still available? and maybe an order code? Thx... On a side note, always amazes me how few factory hitches you see on new X5s. Its a great tow vehicle for the rated loads, and don't people at least want a bike or luggage rack option? Many more Audi Q7's with factory hitches running around and seems like most Mercedes GL have factory hitches. |

FWIW, the hitches sold all around the world are NOT all the same. What is likely sold in South Korea is a gooseneck, while the US gets a receiver that can accept accessories directly, or insert a ball attachment to tow a caravan.
I don't know what the 'take' rate was, but it never seemed like my dealer had any in stock with one, if you wanted one, you ordered the vehicle with it, so I don't know what his take rate was, or what it was like in the USA. Availability seems to vary both by model and market. |

... We order our X5 through US Military Sales Program here in South Korea and it is a US Spec ... But, I kind of wish that it had the gooseneck hitch so it wouldn't have cut into the read diffuser on the bumper ...

I'm sorry. What is a "read diffuser" on the bumper that you are referring to?

I had heard it was not available back on 10/6 which is why I drove 2 hours to pick up an X5 in stock at a dealer with a trailer hitch the next day.
I had been contemplating ordering a BMW but then did a search and found a great dealer in PA. When I chatted with the salesman on the 2 models in stock I stressed how I came to find him was because I thought both of his models had trailer hitches which is a feature I really wanted. He followed up with me and told me about the hitch availability issues on new orders. I slept on it and then contacted him early morning to put a deposit on one and drove up to look at both and went with the one I put the deposit on. I'm pleased with the vehicle even if it does not have all the features I would have wanted. I have not towed with it yet. Curious if it does come with bigger brakes, I am very pleased with the brakes on this vehicle. Now i just need to piece together a spare tire kit, get a cargo mat and I'm set. I would assume they will come back when supplies are up. |

Putting in an electronic brake controller is a little tougher unless you opt for one of the wireless ones. Supposedly, the connector to do it is there under the dash, but finding the right plug to mate to it and a place to mount it comfortably is a bit harder. My thought is that the Teknosha Prodigy is probably what I'll buy if I decide on a trailer that needs one. https://www.tekonsha.com/product/902...l-proportional There is one that just plugs in as an adapter, in-line with the trailer connector, but that requires the use of your phone for manual, emergency control, and there's nothing holding it in place, so it could easily be lifted should you park somewhere. If you used anti-tamper screws on the Prodigy box, while it could still be lifted, it would be more time consuming, and maybe not as likely to happen, and the display is dedicated. |
