Sure, I know. I just think that you should be able to drive a 'sports' car with leather gloves

I've used capacitive gloves driving, and they actually work even with the steering wheel sensors.

The buttons by the iDrive controller don't work either? I know the memory buttons give you a message about wearing gloves. Figured the ones by the iDrive were more traditional type buttons.

None of the buttons around the gear selector work with my *German* gloves. But I knew that going in as there are no individual buttons but a contiguous flat surface, so capacitive sensing is used to identify the button that the finger touches. I actually like the surface as it is easier to keep nice and clean.

Hey guys, check this website (rusia) which is selling just the crystal shift knob. I made google chrome translate it to spanish and it seems its just the crystal knob, no modules or "repair kits". I already contacted the parts dept. of my dealer and gave him the part number shown on one of the pictures. Here is the Part #61 31 9 475 056

Just to add to this thread; I didn't really see the crystal shifter in person but I ordered it on our build and couldn't love it any more than I already do. I drove it in direct sunlight and its not been an issue for me. Compared to the stock plastic shifter I would choose this every time.

Ditto. The stock shifter just looks cheap for this price range, and fancy leather, while a great option for a manual shift, is nothing more than cosmetic in an automatic shifter with paddles on the wheel (although beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder).

yeah, the few models we test drove at the dealership had the regular shifter and it looked out of place. I don't think the crystal shifter looks tacky at all, especially surrounded by the glossy/piano black controls all around. no regrets here on our options; cant wait to cross 1200 miles on the odometer so I can actually use the paddles...

The crystal gear shifter really completes the luxury feel, especially with Marino seats and leather dashboard. It looks so much better in person than in photos. Extremely glad I went for it, there are people who regret not and looking for after market parts. Plastic and leather knobs are way to common, found on any Hyandai!

Already ordered the crystal shift knob, will take at least a month to get here, is a test since no one on my local dealer really knows if it's going to work or not, but I pulled the trigger anyway. I spoke with Braman BMW in Miami and they told me it works, so I took their word, but I'm in Costa Rica so I ordered from my local dealer not from Braman

Did you buy it aftermarket ? Is that possible ? My X5 will come with the standard shifter that I don't really like either but I don't like the price of the crystal option... Overpriced to me...
So if there is a nice and reasonnably priced aftermarket option, specially with leather ... why not Thanks !
