2021 X5 Night Vision?

I see that manual still refers to night vision. Is that part of the pro package or old stuff they never removed?! i.e page 204 on 45e manual.

Night vision was a standalone option. I suspect it hasn't been removed but I also think it will be re-added to the order sheet at some point in the future.

I have it on my 2020 X7 M50i. Its awesome and can be used in a lot of ways. Unfortunately, BMW removed it as well as other standalone options from the 2021 models.

Unfortunately it was removed from the MY21 cars. I just got my M50i last week and reluctantly ordered it despite the deletion. I have it on my 2018 540 and it has saved me so many times I lost track.

Could be covid supply chain issues - at some point you have to make a call and if the parts supply doesn't exist or isn't reliable you gotta cut it (even if they can still get a smaller supply)

It is available in Canada. Don't think it is supply related.

Curious to know what different ways owners can use this?

I believe it shows up in HUD.
Headlight washers comes as a package?
Does it still use the head unit to display the night vision?

Beside all the automatic scanning and “potential danger” notifications in the HUD, much better night vision resolution in the iDrive 7 display. I haven’t yet checked if it can also be displayed to the RES. It’s so clear you can drive just by the display at lower speeds. I played around with it in my fields and it will pick up all kinds of critters hiding at the edge of the fields behind light foliage.

That would indicate it is supply related - it comes down to level of reliable supply as obviously the assembly lines are config'd for the options.

For example, if covid cut reliable supply by 50% and the Canadian take rate consumes 30% of overall supply then you could either cut it in both markets or shift all of your supply to Canada and cut the US market. Depending on local market factors, take rates, and margin I can easily see continuing Canadian supply and cutting US (e.g., Canadian sales+margin is +3% with those options, -8% without, US is equal - then you move supply to Canada).

Given all of the little things that have been cut (cup holders, soft close, night vision, off-road package, steering, etc) to me that reeks of supply chain.

EDIT: Could also be assembly line issues, for example pushing through those options slows things down too much given the take rate of the US market so they limit it to certain markets.

Your explanation seems plausible and makes sense.

I suspect it is a combo of supply chain issues along with manufacturing "rationalization" to simplify the myriad of build configurations available in past years. Hopefully things will return to normal next year.

Dumb question. If you go on to BMW Canada, you can build an X5 with options not currently available in the US (like full leather). Anyone well-versed on the possibility of ordering a car in Canada and then bringing it into the US?

I have it on mine but have not taken delivery yet. Curious to see how it functions.
Does anyone on here have any photos of how NVA looks and works on the G05?

It appears to be slightly clearer than in the F85.
Any chance the NVA utilizes the center display on the cluster?

Not worth the hassle unless you are a resident of Canada who plans to move to the U.S. or a foreign diplomat stationed in the U.S.

Got it - thanks. I have family in Canada, so my thought was have them buy the car and then just sell it to me.

Importing a car into the U.S. for personal use is unfortunately anything but straightforward. There are some exception schemes for people relocating into the U.S. and diplomats which are easier to navigate, but it seems that they would not apply to you.

If you are the adventurous type, then another idea would be to have your Canadian family register the car in their name and you would drive it in the U.S. - most likely highly illegal (at least it would be tax evasion), but how likely would it be for you to get caught?

You have to federalize it before it is even allowed on any USA roads and in some cases CanAm vehicles have a warranty that stays in Canada despite being part of North America. Not worth it.
