Biggest phone that can fit into the wireless charging tray

iPhone season and I'm considering a 12 Pro Max - does anyone know the biggest phone that fits into the G05 wireless charging tray?

I guess some type of Note will be as big as the 12PM so appreciate any thoughts on phone size and compatibility?

I'd be interested in this info as well. Getting ready to preorder the new 12 pro next week, and if it's the max version or not will depend on if it fits the g05 charging tray...
Also, not sure if the tray dimensions are different in the version with heated/cooled cupholders, or if it's just the orientation that differs?

True I forgot about charging tray differences between normal and heated cup holders - I've gone for the latter.

Note 20 Ultra here & h/c cup holders - fits with no problems, there is room to go even bigger.

In my experience it is much easier to use a cable. It charges faster and the accessibility of the tray is not optimal. So go for the pro max and a cable. Any ideas when it will be available, waiting to order a 12 pro too.

Second thing why I am not using wireless charging anymore is that keep the digital keycard to open doors at work in my cover. I don't know if wireless charging could be an issue for the card / phone / charger.

They'll be announced next Tuesday the 13th. Usually the preorders open on the Friday after the Apple event, with deliveries going out 1 to 2 weeks after that. It could be that this year some models will have a bit of a delayed delivery due to supply chain problems.
If you preorder one, pretty sure you'll have one in hand early November.
Fyi; best is to order through Apple itself. I've burned myself twice now by preordering at coolblue, and every time they couldn't deliver and I ended up ordering it straight from Apple anyway.

Me too! Remember when you were charged by the minute. I ran up a $400 one month phone bill! Then the novelty quickly wore off.

A Galaxy Note 9 in an Otterbox Defender case, with I'm guessing about 1/8" to spare. H/C cupholders.

I have iPhone 11 Pro Max and it fits pretty well with some spare space. I don't have heated/cooled cup holder so my charging tray is vertical.

I understand iPhone 12 Pro Max is going to little bigger in size 6.7 vs 6.5 but that should not cause any issues.

I am in apple ecosystem. I find that with every iterations the weight of the iPhone seems to be creeping up. They are so obsessed with making it ever so thin, but failing to engineer a relatively lighter version. Having the glass back made it worse, slips off easily, and costs arms and legs to repair frigging glass (ask me how I know). I don't want to carry around a brick 🧱 with me all the time. We all know what happened with their Air Charger! Also, until they adopt USB C I'll keep my iPhone X running. Camera is lagging behind Android too! No 16:9 aspect ratio photos. Don't understand why they won't let user pause while video recording. Apologize, had to vent and let it out....phew ... feels better now 🙈😀

Note, when the phone is in the charging tray, it also couples the cellular signal to the external antenna on the roof, at least in the USA version, so that may be a consideration. It should give you better range and let the phone become more efficient as it won't have to transmit on high power to get a signal through.

Slight hijack, but does anyone else have problems with their phones overheating when wireless charging? I have an XS that I keep in a silicone case and after 20-30 minutes in the wireless charging tray, the phone gets almost too hot to touch on the back and disconnects from CarPlay. Take it out and let it cool down and it connects back

Hi,

I have this in my F30 if I am using CarPlay navigation - the phone gets very hot and eventually (after an hour or so) will power off.

The F30 wireless charging is under the armrest though so probably not enough ventilation - G05 is different perhaps as you can leave the sliding cover open.

I kept using the tray for months, but on my recent 2.5K of driving I had to go old school because of needing immediate access to apps like Waze (not interested in CP), Escort Live, and VI Driver.

The 12 Pro Max is slightly bigger. I think we will all be fine.
