most of the old BMW's can be a bit problematic thats a fact.. running or maintaining them is not cheap also.. thats another fact.. but does it makes BMW worse than Toyota.. not really.. this guy is a Japanese car fan..

That guy is an annoying idiot, and I like Toyota products. Cannot stand him. BTW, if I posted a picture of dog $hit, I would get subscribers.....there is an audience for everything.

You hate it, but you just brought him ad revenues. Scotty is laughing all the way to the bank.

Hate the style of the video (editing is crap, the guy is hyperventilating all the time, it's tiring), but that being said, somewhere, there's a 17yo buying a N54 335i because he could snap it for the price of an old Civic. Poor lad has no idea what he got himself into. This video may actually serve some purpose warning that teenager that he just put a financial shotgun in his mouth and is ready to pull the trigger.

If you know what you're getting into, its all fine having a 15yo BMW. If you think you got yourself a deal based on buying price, that's gonna hurt.

Of course a 10-20 year Japanese car will be much more reliable than a luxury German car of the same age. Every BMW is a waste of money, in a good sense. Even with new ones you can have issues.

You are spending extra for the joy. And it worths every penny IMO.

I think the worst thing about Kilmer is his product placement w/o verbally stating so in the video and the click-bait.
And some of his work is highly questionable (brake lines), and particularly in his older repairs he glosses over tips and hints that make the job complete.
He's an experienced driveway mechanic with limited access to tools for complex jobs or complex vehicles.

I think many of BMW's reliability issues stem from prioritizing innovation and consumer convenience over reliability. A lot of features on modern bmw's such as oil level sensor in place of a dip stick are bound to fail at some point. My wife's X3 has "gesture control" which is a complete joke and I'm sure it will be an issue 10 years from now. Same with automated driving which every car, even Toyota, has now days.

It's been through 4 HPFPs, most of those early on and 2 or 3 covered by BMW. It's had a valve cover replacement, a few door lock actuators and a window regulator but it's actually been pretty reliable.

My wife's Toyota years ago had its share of issues beyond 100k miles and I know several people with newer Rav4's that had the 4 cylinder engine completely shit the bed before 120k miles.
My wife bought a 2004 Rav4 brand new before we met, in 2008 with 95k miles on the car the cylinder head lifted from the block and the motor was toast. I am in the auto repair industry, so i looked up TSB from Toyota. They stated that on the 2.4L engines from 2004-2006 the cylinder head bolts may have been over torqued, causing them to eventually lift from the block. BUT they were not going to recall the engines, its the customers problem. Dumped that car and bought my wife an e90, then an x5. I will never buy another Toyota ever again.

Horror stories exist for every brand as you know being in the industry. Perceptions tend to be extreme in the auto business, at least with many people. In other words if you think Toyota is reliable, nothing will change your mind. If you think they're built well, nothing will change your mind. If you think Euro brands are trash? You won't change your mind. At least most won't. Some of the impressions are so engrained in how people think that it takes years for those perceptions to move.

Could you imagine what it'd be like to spend anytime with this knob. No doubt he has an opinion on every aspect of life and makes sure you know what they are and that you're stupid if you don't agree with him......must be a democrat.

Agreed.

I made the horrible mistake of watching one of his videos.

3 minutes in I could see he wasn't for me...but YouTube loves to suggest him now

He's like a ranting stoner who wobbles and shakes as he spots his venom.

Whole channel revolves around using clickbait to get views. That's all. See it's even working with you posting his vid on this forum.
