SHOULD I get Driver Assist Pro Pkg???

Coming out of 8 new MB’s, I recently ordered a new I7 with the Driver Assistance Professional Pkg. Looking into it further, it would appear that it might be more of a nuisance than a benefit. I absolutely love a “Stop & Go” Adaptive Cruise Control, but I don’t want some system constantly telling me to adjust the steering wheel angle, etc.

Perhaps I should delete that option? Advice please. Thanks.

You have to actively activate it in order to use DAPP. It’s not automatically on by default.

But I promise you it’s one of the best features on modern BMWs. I don’t know how to say it any more strongly, that you’d sincerely regret not having it if you ever had a chance to try it you try it!

You want it. It’s a fantastic feature. The ability to drive hands free at freeway speeds is amazing. You can turn what you want on and off, but I think you’ll regret not getting it.

I wouldn’t buy a car without it. It's too useful, especially in stop and go traffic on the highway

It is one of my most fav features. I use it each time I am on the highway! For the most part, it works so well too!!!

I surprisingly use it a lot. And it’s very good. Get it. It kind of future proofs the car. The look st the mirror feature to change lanes is super cool too.

This only works if you have a destination set in the built in BMW Navi, right?

Paying six figures for this car and leaving out such a helpful and convenient suite of safety features for an extra 1% or 2% price increase would be an insanely poor and unwise decision you would unquestionably regret.

That’s correct. You need to be using the bmw nav and self drive to use the mirrors to change lanes with your eyes and only when it suggests a lane change I think or the bell chimes. Haven’t used that eye thing much.

I would say the same for the auto doors. Priceless for cool factor and convenience.

Yes, for the change lanes by looking. Changing lanes by tapping the turn signal works independent of Nav (and I find I like better anyway).

That said, if the base level has the hands-on lane centering, that's far more useful than the hands-off mode and works in way more areas (not sure where they draw the line in what goes into the Pro kit). With the capacitive wheel, lightly touching the wheel anywhere is enough to keep it engaged and the extra leap to fully hands-off isn't that significant.

Having to touch the wheel every 5 seconds does not feel luxurious or assisted. Pro is way better imo. Especially on a long trip of straight boring highway or bumper to bumper traffic. Worth its weight in gold. Get it Stream.

Thanks to all of you who commented. The fact that you need to “actively activate” the system is good enough for me. It was never a matter of the option cost for me, only one of possibly being saddled with something annoying that I would not be able to turn off, if I did not want to use it. Anyway, I very much appreciate all the advice. This is my first BMW since 1995!

i have the one that came with premium package i think. not the extra pro one.

it does stop and go acc and does very well keeping the car in lane at freeway speeds.bends and curves pretty good

not sure what additional feautre will come with pro package but this one is just enough for me.

Haha -- I know; just some good-natured ribbing. Tomorrow, it'll be me doing the same thing in a post.
