Anyone can comment how much softer on winter tires with stock competition wheels? Is it better to go up one aspect size to 295/40ZR21 and 315/35ZR22?

The ride quality of a 21-23 BMW X5M can vary based on factors like suspension setup, wheel and tire choice, and model year improvements. BMW typically offers adjustable suspensions to tailor the ride to your preferences. It's also worth noting that personal comfort preferences differ, so test-driving the specific X5M model you're interested in is crucial. Compared to smaller M models, the X5M is generally more comfortable due to its larger size and its role as a luxury SUV. Given your positive experience with the M8 Competition Gran Coupe, which balances comfort and sportiness, it's reasonable to expect the X5M to offer a similar balance, but individual preferences may vary. Seeking input from BMW dealerships and X5M owners on forums can provide more detailed insights into ride quality.

I owned the previous gen 2018 F85 X5M and now a 2020 X5M. The current one rides stiffer than the old one so if you thought the F85 was too stiff then i'm not sure if this is the right car for you. Your local road condition has a huge impact on what is too harsh or not for this car. Living in NYC i think my X5M is too stiff especially going over the broken ass Manhattan bridge but now living in NJ its hardly an issue.

With that said you really need to take one on a extended test drive to see for yourself.

Can dealer adjust suspension settings?

It really isn't all that different. I went to 20" square setup on Pirelli Scorpion 275/45/20 and there wasn't much to even notice in normal driving.

^^ I agree. Minimal difference in ride quality between summer and winter tires. Its a smidge more compliant with the winter but most won't notice.

Are you saying minimal difference between summer and winter on original stock wheels OR minimal difference even after going to square 20” setup?

I asked dealer about putting on winter tires with higher sidewalls 295/40R21 and 315/35R22. Dealer said minimal difference and they can’t deviate from manufacturer spec.

Yes, dealerships can typically adjust the suspension settings of a BMW X5M. BMW often equips their M models, including the X5M, with adjustable suspensions that allow for customization of ride comfort and performance. You can work with the dealership to fine-tune the suspension settings to better suit your preferences, making the X5M more comfortable or sporty as desired. It's a good idea to discuss your specific requirements with the dealer during the test drive and purchase process to ensure the suspension settings meet your expectations.

is that on the new G body? or previous F85/F86? 20s are making me think they are for the last gen?

earlier this month, we traded in our 2017 X6M for a 2022 X6M Comp.

I am in Michigan with temps now in the 50s, so my summer tires might skew my results and I haven't logged too many mines yet, so i can't say for sure, but I noticed the ride is a bit stiffer, and little less compliant over rougher surfaces. (found this weird feeling of slipping on some bumps as it settles after a "jump". this could be a tire difference and colder temps as I'm still trying lurking to find a used winter wheel setup..)

that being said, I like our G06 more than the last gen. ride feels a tad bit stiffer, but I am not sure if going from Sport 4S on 21 and Pirelli snows on 20s on the F86 to Pirelli summers on 21, 22 rear are the cause for the "butt feel".

personally I got too used to the way our F86 drove and really didn't like the way 22 M50, or 24 M60 ride on comfort setting. Just couldn't find a good setting at all and sport was too firm and sensitive for everyday driving.

test drive would be best, but not many stock Ms on the showroom, so..

I think the tire/wheel size has a lot to do with it. I ran 21" summer wheels/tires and 20" winter on my 2019 F86. I don't get why they went to this 21"/22" package or the 21" for winter. I'm sure the smaller side wall has a lot to do with the ride. I do feel a difference and it is stiffer for sure.

If you haven't gotten a winter wheel set up or winter tires yet, get moving! I already switched out. Temps this morning were in the low 40s. Enjoy the new to you ride

This is first hearing that. Donyoibhave any technical dosument with details? I highly doubt there is anything beyond what is in the idrive dealer will be willing to adjust.

This is 100% false. There is nothing adjustable on the X5M's suspension that the dealership can do. Aside from the special CSL models i don't recall any BMW coming with (manual) adjustable suspension.
