Accident

So this just happened tonight. Bummed. Car has less than 5,000 miles on it. 😡

I have to say, the vehicle handled the impact well, it seems. It was a hard hit. I suspect the vehicle that hit me was totaled.

Mine got hit last Tuesday, parked, at 5500 miles. Repairable, but might be totaled. I sympathize.

Not sure of the rules in your state but make sure to try to get reimbursed for depreciation from their insurance company, not just repairs (assuming it is the other driver’s fault). I was able to do this in prior accident, had to get appraisal with and without an accident.

Yes, good point. Thx. I just looked it up and In Connecticut it’s allowed and called a “diminished value claim.” I’m having the dealer I bought I from handle the repairs. I imagine I can get a quote from them.

In most cases l, the body shop work is not really the dealer doing it. But still better to go through the dealer - this stinks sorry it happened glad everyone is ok.

That sucks. Your X5 came out on the good end and provided the other car a proper hood reshaping service.

Damn, that sucks! Glad nobody was hurt and you could still drive away. Hopefully the other driver has valid insurance.

That stinks -- glad you're OK. What's your plan for a replacement while it's in the body shop? Does your insurance cover a rental?

My son's RAV4 got sideswiped by a snow plow in January and caused $11k in damage. My $1,200 car rental allowance covered just enough for a replacement vehicle to bridge the month his car was being repaired.

Thank you everyone for the kind support. I am waiting to hear back from insurance to see what next steps are. The vehicle is currently sitting in the garage as there are some things hanging from the back of it. It seems the brunt of the damage was to the bumper, exhaust and muffler, and the lower rear hatch.

I assume I will get a loaner. The fault is with the other party and I imagine that most cover the expense of a loaner. I’m planning to take it back to BMW for the repairs, even though it may not be what the insurance company wants. My position is too bad, it’s to new! I also want a demished value claim as this most likely will show on a Carfax report.

Yeah. Their liability will cover a rental for you while your car is in the shop, but it's not always straightforward.

When our E70 was rear-ended, the other guy had Allstate. They covered the rental and paid Hertz directly. When I dropped off our car at the shop, the shop called the local Hertz office who sent a pick up. Dropped it off when we got ours back.

When my F30 was sideswiped in a parking lot, the other guy had a "I've never heard of them from Miami, company." They said they would cover the rental at a max $25/day but you had to pay for it and file for reimbursement after the fact. At the time I had another vehicle, so I just skipped it.

BTW, most car rental companies have a special rate for "my car is in the body shop" that isn't widely published. I you are paying, be sure to ask about it.
