Mine sat for over 2-months and never uploaded to the vehicle. The dealer had the area BMW rep take a ride with me to check things, then allowed the dealer to update mine...normally, BMWUSA would not pay for the dealer to update it.

Just wanted to add my experience as well -- my car sat for a week, and the battery had completely died. Since the battery was about 4 years old, i decided just to get a new one.

After getting a new battery, AS WELL as deleting all the codes from the car (including the one that said there was an error with the remote software upgrade - the conditions were not being met), my car said "ready to start upgrade!" -- For several months it would not update.

so it was either my low battery charge and/or a combination of clearing the error code and the low battery charge that FINALLY got the software to update to the latest version.

What did you use to clear the codes?

I would assume any OBDII reader that clears codes works though.

I have a 2019 G05 X5 40i xDrive. Any recommendations on a good battery tender that I can use? I drive my car not more than 5 miles each day and some days none at all. My remote software update for 03/2023 has been transferred to the car but it is not prompting me to install it since the last 3 months. I am guessing it is due to a low battery charge (lower than what it needs) so what is a good battery tender to use for this car? I have never bought or needed one before so I have no knowledge or experience on this topic/area so any insights and suggestions/inputs will also be appreciated.

samvora , I have had a CTEK charge my battery to the max twice and cleared the OBD fault codes , but still could not update it. Yesterday after a few months of waiting , I finally did get the prompt to install randomly, but as soon as the installation started it failed with an error and went back to previous state, its just best to ignore this update , either go to dealer to do it, or just wait for the install to show up randomly.

Yes I guess I am just going to ignore it because anyway this update seems to remove the ASS coding anyway and I need that.

Weird. One of those BMW glitches.

I don't understand why the upgrade process is so user UNFRIENDLY.
I got the update on the app (2023 x5 edrive) and noticed I had to be driving to install it but it never installed after several drives.
The car has been in the garage a month now as I am out of country and I see the app says the update expired. Lol.
What's that all about?

the update doesn’t install while driving. never has. what happens during the driving part is the software transfers from your phone to the vehicle. after the transfer, it should give you the ability to install (while stationary)

Ah so maybe it is in the car? And when I get back home I can use the menu to activate the nstallation? (I never saw any prompt.)

The messaging in the App is not clear... thus my misunderstanding.

Thanks.

if the transfer completed from phone to vehicle, when you get home, go into the settings for remote software upgrade and see if it prompts you to install. this is the part that has frustrated many people where the transfer is complete but it doesn't prompt to install. good luck

We purchased a used 2020 X5 from a BMW dealer in June 2023. Come to find out that the installed software was 07/2019.63. The dealer had sold the vehicle originally and serviced it. No idea why it never got any updates. Don't trust the dealership and they are 2 hours away.

I downloaded the update to 11/2019.70 which was the only version offered to me. But it won't install. I have the message that Preparations for the upgrade to version 11/2019.70 have been completed. That I will be notified when the upgrade can be installed. But after three weeks, I have not ever gotten that message. How can I either force the installation or get whatever is holding it back unstuck?

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to force the update to install. While it rarely seems to be the cause of them not updating, charge your battery to make sure that is not preventing it from updating. Since you are still under warranty (assuming that) and running less that 07/2021 a dealer will update it for free. I suggest contacting them and referencing SIB 09 03 21.

I got the recent update to my 2023 edrive. It's in the car and prompts me to install when it can sit for 30 minutes or so. I indicate ok and it goes through a checklist of items that need to be off. The last is exterior lights.....no idea what that means as none are on. And it seems not to check off.

I leave the car a few times but it still failed to install.

Big miss on the user experience here by BMW.

what is your light panel set to on a regular basis? still, did you press the OFF button to ensure lights are off?

I am surprised that after few years of this problem it still exists.

I am also stuck at 11/2019 and am seriously considering going to the dealership to get it installed (I want to see CarPlay guidance in HUD).

I received the notification the software upgrade was ready last week but am hesitant to upgrade as I have anti-dazzle headlights coded and don’t want to lose it. Anyone know if this update will clear my coding? I thought some upgrades did and some didn’t.

An update will clear the coding from any ECU that is updated. That said, many have reported that anti-dazzle coding has survived updates. Don't remember if I saw that for 11/2023 or not though.

My anti-dazzle coding has survived updates 07/2022.xx, 11/2022.xx, and 03/2023.xx. I updated to 11/2023.50 last week, but haven't driven at night to see if it is still coded.

Your post reminded me I need to check, so thank you.

Thanks! Think I’ll wait to update until I see some positive responses that they didn’t lose the coding.
