Highway Assistant aka hands free avail or LCI X5MC?

Searching for answer. It's very clear on the M60i Highway Assistant is available and allows for hands off driving up to 85 MPH. I don't think it's available on the LCI X5MC..but my CA is telling me it is. I don't see it listed on official BMW config. Can someone confirm or deny if it's really avail. I am on fence between new M60i or X5MC. My other concern is the 8.5 vers on the X5M is "stripped" down meaning no Quickselect feature like in the new 8.5. Any thought on if that is a deal breaker, as I am unsure.

I have owned a 2024 X5M LCI since June and I’m sad to say it doesn’t have the Highway Assistant feature. Had a 2024 X6 M60i on order and got the X5M at the last second when an opportunity arose and was so disappointed it didn’t have this feature…

New poster here - I picked up my 24 X5MC just last week! New to BMW, new to M and so far quite delighted!

I have the Driver Assistant Pro package and I do believe this is included in the X5M. Just today it came on for a brief time on a highway (880 North). I had to change some settings to turn it on, but on at least two occasions after a few moments the option came on to enter the advanced assist mode, the two lights on the wheel turned on and I was able to take my hands off. Each segment it seemed to work properly for ~3-5 minutes but each time it cut out with a somewhat panicked "take control immediately" message when someone changed into my lane ahead of me--and not aggressively so. The option did not pop up again for the remainder of my trip.

When I bought my 2024 X5MC in June, Highway Assist was not available. The price of the Assist package was 1700 instead of 2100 (the price for versions with highway assist). This is still how it shows today on bmwusa.com. Maybe cars with 8.5 from the factory will have it, but I’d expect the price to change if that’s the case.

Mine still does traffic jam assist (hands free below 40mph), and assisted at full highway speeds (require a hand on the wheel but otherwise drives itself).

I'm not sure if it's the same, but in my options list I have this listed:
5AU
Driving Assistant Professional
Driving Assistant Professional

However ever since I got the car whenever i'm on any road the car won't go on autonomous mode whatsoever. I do get the steering wheel icon on the screen but it never goes green. I tried changing the setting but with no luck.

For whatever reason Highway Assistant is currently not available on the X5M/X6M hence the $1,700 price tag of the DAPP vs the $2,100 price on the non-M models. Whether or not it will be added at a later date is unknown as far as I know.

My 2024 does it but at 40mph or less. You dont need to touch the steering wheel for anything. However I think it will only activate on a geofenced highway but dont quote me on that.

Does anybody know if the 2024 (post-LCI) X5 M has this MGU5 compute/sense complex?

Just received our X5 MC yesterday and driving back from dealership, we actually test it. The vehicle drives itself on highway and automatically slows down when the front car slows down. however, when keeping speed blow 40 mph, there's a text showing on HUD something like: "driving assistance plus" can't remember but there's def a "plus" in the text.

What does your car say? It should list that in settings under regulatory information. Look for FCC ID under settings > regulatory > head unit

The "below 40" behavior you're seeing is the true handsfree mode that uses the cameras to ensure you're paying attention. The higher speed behavior you're describing is the basic assistance mode that requires a hand on the wheel. If the X5M had received the Highway Assist feature, the high speed mode would behave like what you're seeing in low speed.

5AU - Extended traffic jam assistant
Hands free driving up to 40mph in special conditions on limited highways.

5AZ - Highway Assistant
Hands free driving up to 85mph in special conditions on limited highways.

Special conditions - the car must see clear lane markings at all times, the driver attention cameras must be able to see your eyes at all times etc.

Has anyone coded the full driving modes that are available on the G05s? (New thread?) Are we actually missing any of the hardware that enables this?

This is a real bummer, and hope it is just a temporary delay in parts. The X7 is showing it available, but really like the X5mc better.

Not possible through coding but i activated with a module i installed in the steering wheel.
Once the lane is detected i don't have to touch the wheel, actually that module bypass the touch sensor in steering wheel through which ecu knows that you are holding the wheel or not but you still have to look straight and can't use phone or anything because the camera in the cluster is tracking your eyes and cancels the cruise control which is good for safety reasons .
Its better to use DA mode responsibly in my opinion

It is a hardware that need to be installed.
I have it on my G05 X5 and G09 XM.
Installed a few for local customers and sold a few to out of state guys.
It is intended for guys who switch to aftermarket steering wheel while want to keep the DAP+.

Seriously, if it wasn't bad enough modern M cars have automatic transmissions, fake gauges, and LGBT ambient lighting - now people want hands free driving. Just get a Tesla, M cars are meant for driving enthusiasts.
