How long can X5 sit before the battery goes dead?
I work from home in Baltimore but spend the winter in the Florida Keys. I also have a big Yukon that can haul everything and still tow my Boston Whaler. The Cadillac SRX and the Lexus RX350 that preceded the new 2019 X5 G05 would start right up after 3 months without doing anything special. This year because of the Pandemic we wound up spending 5 months in the Keys. When I got home to Baltimore, I was certain that the BMW would not start after sitting for 5 months. To my surprise it fired right up. No codes and all the settings remained the same. Other than the dust that accumulated on the outside, it was ready to go.
I occasionally see a post asking about leaving the car for a month or two. Just want to encourage you to leave it alone and it will be fine. Frank |

5 months is amazing. You got real lucky. We have seen vehicles in half that amount of time go dead. Weather conditions, etc... makes a difference as well.

Multiple conditions can determine how deeply discharged a battery can become when the vehicle is parked for extended periods. The weather (especially extreme cold or heat) is definitely one...and things like how many times the new modern features “awaken” from near vicinity of aerials that can pick-up commands etc (like remotes in your pocket/purse as you walk by or near the vehicle awaiting a command to lock/unlock etc).
Click the following link to see the BMW recommended battery charging calendar: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/g...system/2RvCTKq If you have a BMW (or any car) that sits for extended periods of time...I would highly recommend investing in a BMW (or CTEK) battery charger/maintainer. This way the battery stays charged and prevents it from going into states of discharge...where repeated states of discharge will shorten the life of the battery. A battery maintainer is worth it.

Absolutely agree on getting a charger. The amount of parasitic power drain on these vehicles is very high. For $60 or so why take a chance of damaging your battery? Very happy with the Battery Tender 4 amp digital.
