Spark plugs

Hey gang,

What are people doing with regards to the spark plugs? Are the dealers replacing them as part of maintenance in your neck in the woods? On my N54 car, they replaced the plugs every 24k km or something along those lines (I had two sets replaced and the car wasn’t even at 40k).

With my x5mc, I had a plug foul and they replaced it. Told me they would replace as needed, whenever the car told them. Seemed silly, since that fouled plug basically forced me to park the car over the weekend.

Are people just replacing them themselves? I don’t mind doing it, just seems silly that it’s not included in the 4 yr service.

UNFORTUNATELY, in my experience, every dealer is going to treat this kind of thing differently. My dealer goes strictly off the mileage recommendations for maintenance by BMW ((MAKES SENSE RIGHT!)), meaning that if my vehicle hits mileage and the list shows plugs needed, plugs are replaced.

I purchased the BMW Ultimate Care+2 (5 year/75,000 miles) and the 7 year/100,000 mile extension warranty when the vehicle was new.

I have heard of dealerships not doing this, and trying to screw over the owner by not doing the recommended maintenance by sing the blanketing statement ((everything is fine so we did not replace)).

The biggest issue I have had under the ultimate care is BRAKES! Yes, they are replaced under the program, but the wear sensor has to rub through before they do so, which is annoying. ((Yes I know the factory pads suck for brake dust, but if they are free, who cares.)) Once the mileage gets close to expiring the warranty, I will do everything I can to get the new pads and then purchase the good stuff from Ben.

My dealer never replaced mine at 23K so i just bought the factory plugs and coilpacks and did them myself. Coilpacks aren't needed but i figure i'm already pulling the old ones off while doing the spark plugs might as well refresh those too. easy to do on this car. You just need a thin wall spark plug socket and get a variety of extension attachments for your ratchet. I didn't even need a angle joint when i did mine.

Do you have the part numbers for our plugs? And the coils? Maybe I’ll look into stocking a couple coils in case any fail.

I was about to execute on the above part numbers, but ECS didn’t have my car listed as a supported platform for those plugs. I asked the rep, who contacted BMW and they came back with the following (these are also not listed as supporting the F95, but apparently are the right ones?)

12120057704 “High power plugs”

Now I’m confused between these and the ones above.

I went by what was recommended by getbmwparts.com.

With that said the original plugs in my car were Denso plugs. The news ones i bought were made by Bosch. Both had the "M Logo" on the plugs. Coilpacks were the same part numbers

Very strange! My dealer replaced them for me without asking, I think it was due in November , close to 3 years but he did in July! Along with brake fluid.

I’ve got my brake fluid, vehicle check and oil change coming up in two weeks. We’ll see! I can’t believe they only changed a single plug last time LOL.
