My dream watch has always been the IWC Portuguese Chronograph with a white face and blue dials.

Usually. All the watches I bought grey market came in original boxes with all the papers. The only thing which might not come with it is the original manufacturer's warranty card. With some of the watches I bought this way, they only had the information for the retailer or 3rd party insurance. One watch actually did come with the original manufacturer's warranty card.

If you're looking to buy from Jomashop, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I see them referenced all the time over on the Watch U Seek forums. While I haven't bought anything from Jomashop, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them if they had a watch in the price range I'm looking to buy. As added insurance, I use my AMEX credit card for purchases like this.

I've been a watch nut since I was very young. My mother managed a few jewelry stores and I was hooked. Then as a 13th birthday present my parents got me SCUBA diving lessons as it was something I was also very interested in, so of course I wanted a SUB, but that was the early 70's and my folks weren't going to buy me a ROLEX when I was 13, or really for a very long time. My mother said she would get me one when I finished school, alas she left the business and the employee deal was gone. I did get a really nice SEIKO dive watch for my 16th though. Fast forward a bit, I ended up going to college for commercial diving and then for dive medic and took a job working in the field, left that job and joined the police dept. and the underwater recovery team, got married etc. When my son was born in '94 I bought myself a Rolex Seadweller as I had done a lot of chamber and mixed gas diving that's what really spoke to me.

So divorce and remarry, my lovely wife treats me very well and has been quite successful. We end up buying a sailboat after a near death experience (mine), so I bought her a Rolex Yachtmaster and now she's hooked. She got me a beautiful Speedy man on the moon and I got her Planet Ocean with the orange strap, she loves orange and then when we were in Vegas last year the jewelry store in the lobby had Shinola watches, so we grabbed her one. A limited production model. I'm retired now so will have to monitor the spending and watches might have to stop as a hobby as I want to do lots of other things.

I won't say I have a grail watch, because for me there are so many. It's like cars and everything else. Although I think the grail car would be a Porsche Singer, but that's how I feel today....tomorrow maybe something else.

My grail is my 6263. I have always wanted one ever since I saw my grandfathers when I was a little kid. Now, I have his and it will never leave me or my family - ever!

If you are looking for a used watch, you can't go wrong with the search engine www.watchrecon.com
It pulls in a ton of classifieds for new and used watches from a bunch of watch forums (TRF - The Rolex Forum, WUS - Watch U Seek).
Of course, you need to do your research to ensure you're dealing with a reputable person (references etc.), but can be a great tool to use to understand pricing of the market for a particular piece.
There are quite a few second hand dealers with stellar reputations advertising as well.

My grail watch is an HYT... Any would be great, but an H2 bronze particularly.

Great watches on this forum - I've got a small group of watches with the Rolex Submariner, blue face, gold/silver combo as my current most valuable.

I've been wanting to get a silver Rolex Daytona with a white face for about 5 years.

After looking at all these great watches though, I will probably have 1 or 2 others in contention for the top spot.

Pure artistry. I'm always tempted to say Lange 1 Automatic, but the Journe has so much more charisma.

This watch definitely isn't the same caliber as others posted, but I've wanted to own one for as long as I can remember so I consider it a grail watch personally. I love the styling and racing inspiration.

Well, the company I work for went public earlier this year and today was the lock-up expiration for selling stock, so I sold a few shares and bought one today to mark the occasion.

I'd be interested to try and line up some mainstream nice watch manufacturers and find their car equivalent. Just off the top of my head:

IWC - Porsche?
Omega - Audi?
Panarai - hmmm
Graham - Morgan?
Patek - Benz?
JLC - BMW?

Just getting the convo started, trying to keep in line with quality vs peers, brand image, etc.
It has been tried many times on watch forums but it doesn't work, some do some don't.

For example Omega for me equals BMW not Audi as Audi = Tag Heuer, although I think most would agree that Rolex = Porsche, the rest gets messy.

Patek = Ferrari
Rolex = Porsche

Then:

IWC/Omega/Tag etc. = BMW/Mercedes/Audi...

Rolex/Patek, much like Porsches and Ferraris, hold their value really well. Actually, if you think about Patek, it's widely heralded as the pinnacle of haute horology even if the reliability suffers a bit from that. You could say almost the exact same thing to describe Ferrari. Rolex, on the other hand, isn't the top of the line but makes robust, functional watches. Could say the same thing about Porsche.

The rest are decent luxury watches, but end up depreciating like tanks much like luxury brands like BMW, MB, Audi etc.

That's how I view it.

Omega Aqua Terra 8500. I'm thinking of selling it after I have it serviced.
