At 2:52 briefly shows the difference between LED high beams and Laser high beams.

Any set of old school halogen fog lamps would be superior to laserlight high beams.

Heck a candle flame in a fog lamp socket would cut thru fog better than laserlight high beams.

It's more to do with the placement of the light source than the technology.

I've used the laser on my i8. It makes a huge difference. On my car the trigger is 43 mph. Unfortunately, I have not used it much on the highway as I'm rarely alone without traffic ahead or coming towards me. I did use it at 5 am. And 43 is a bit too fast for neighborhoods. It is a great option but usage will vary depending on where you drive. I still haven't recouped the amount charged for this option. Don't know if it's different from the X5.

$1k standalone on the X5 or it comes with a package for $3-4k (I don't recall the package cost)

it's about the range not just brightness. In the EU they have 2000ft of visibility which is a big deal and would be better when fully enabled here. I've vaguely measure mine at 1200-1400ft or so maybe more based on where I could see and my position then I went to Google maps and measured.

When you driving 100+ mph on the Autobahn maximum projected distance is critical.

I saw a huge difference driving 90mph on i95 in light drizzle. When the lasers kicked on, it shot down the highway so far all I could see is blue and green dots from the road signs. There was just enough drizzle I could see the beam pattern and how sharp and focused it was.
By far the best lighting I have ever used. It blows away my Porsche 911 C4S headlights and they are really friggen good. I would have said they are the best in the industry until I experienced the lighting system on the new X5 with the Laser lights on and off. The complete system is outstanding on the X5. It’s optimum lighting placed in optimum positions.

Anybody have an update as to when the US will get the EU laser light range? Once read on the forum that it might be able to code for it. Haven't seen any updates in months.

A few members have coded the anti-dazzle and perhaps the range. LexxM3 has posted the coding info on a few threads.

VO Coded mine, works very well the bright light icon stays on most of the time you can see the light moving around and create tunnels haven’t had anyone flash me yet. Saw a huge buck in the ditch easily while following a pickup and the lights filled the ditch up alongside the pickup which would not happen on dim setting. E-sys was used to enable the anti dazzle.

Would be great to figure out the range but I think our North American laser lights are different hardware, although not positive.

Same here. Used esys. I don't even think you'll need a token to do VO coding.

need to brush up on coding it's been years. I'll do it when I get back from my work trip

Hey. I think high beam and laser lights are the same thing. The only difference is on normal high beam the laser lights do not automatically dim or change angle or width of beam. Its only when you push the auto function.

Am i correct.

umm laser lights are well worth the money no matter how you put it. If there's even a 1% chance of using them that could be the difference between hitting a deer or not
You usually don't hit a deer that's 300 yards in front if you. The majority of deer collisions are from deer running directly into the path of the vehicle from the side of the road. Usually only at 20 yards or less. The deer in the headlights scenario a headlight beam strikes eyes that are fully dilated to capture as much light as possible, deer cannot see at all, and they freeze until the eyes can adjust. So laser lights will make the deer stand in the road longer before you hit one?
