you can do it via the apple watch app. it has a screen to activate 'climate control' and lock/unlock. you can long press and then do the Horn and Lights. the only real wish i have is a Complication to quick launch it, like the Volvo one has.

is it possible to retrofit remote engine start on the X5 G05? I just got a brand new X5 but didn't come with remote engine start.

possibly. it is likely software. some people report receiving it and then losing it following a software upgrade to 2019.03.35 or .37. we need to wait and hopefully either bimmercode or carly will be capable of enabling it once they release all their codings.

I lost the ability to remote start using the key fob after my update to 3/2019.35...sorry if it's been discussed elsewhere but are there any fixes to this?

Has your dealer looked into it?

Remote starts work Ver 03/2019 .37. Recently updated from 03/2019 .22 to .37. I don't have problem to start the car remotely from fob/app.

Not yet, waiting on parts to arrive then will take it to them and inform them about this

I lost my remote start functionality after they performed an upgrade on the software.

You might need to go back into the car menu and enable remote start

Settings->Climate Control -> Auxiliary Climate Control ->Remote Engine Start.

It was disabled after the software upgrade. I re-enabled it and the remote start is working again.

Remote start via iwatch 3 shuts off immediately after it starts. Also after the initial remote start via iwatch remote start doesn’t work.

Can't speak to the Apple Watch but you cannot use remote start repeatedly, see the highlighted text.. ..

All G05s support remote Starting, its a feature of iDrive 7 and the car's ECU, so its a function of SOFTWARE not hardware.

The capability is rolled out based on Country and local regulations and security concerns - since its all based around ConnectedDrive.

I'm in Australia, and BMW Australia hasn't enabled it locally here yet, but we're told its coming.

Apparently it is available in Australia. There was a member on here with the 03/2019 software version who says he has it activated in Sydney.

Interesting, now you got me curious. Mine just got its S/W upgraded to 03/2019.39, and I cant seem to find it.
Is it something I have to talk to my dealer about? or is it configurable in iDrive system?

Speaking of 03/2019.39, its certainly has some annoying bugs, but there's many threads about that....

I understand it is a setting off the climate control menu on idrive. you have to select an option to allow engine start.

Afyer that the ventilate now option on the app apparently starts the engine.

I have not yet upgraded. There seems to be too many issues for those thay do, and at the moment my car runs well and the only issue I have is an occasional reset of idrive being necessary.

let us know if you get it working. coming into summer and given the current temps in brisbane i think i may insist on a software upgrade in the next few weeks... the idea of turning the aircon on prior to leaving a shopping centre or work is very appealing!

I am in Australia and on the 07/2019.39 Software Version.
I do not have Remote Start. There is also no option that I can find in iDrive to enable it.
There is only Ventilate now which starts ventilation but NOT the engine. This can also be done remotely via the Connected Drive App.

I've enable remote engine start via coding but I'm not 100% it's consistently working as designed.

I've triggered it via iDrive, Display Key, Apple Watch, iOS app. It flashes the indicator lights a few times and then either kicks in and starts the car, or flashes a few more times and generates an error message.

Aware of the need to start/stop the engine manually after 2 remote requests.

Does anyone with the feature enabled from factory recall seeing any of these error messages?
- Display key: "Error. Try again later"
- iDrive error - "Remote engine start not available. Conditions needed for operation are not met. See Owners handbook for more information.

I'm guessing its either a coding issue, regional lock, i-step bug, other?

One of the conditions in the manual is a sufficient battery charge. The manual doesn't say what sufficient is though. I might not mean the same as an actual in the car start from the button on the console.

For example, auto stop/start will kick in even if you have the AC on. But if you sit for too long the engine will start up again on its own even though your foot is on the break.

It may be after a couple of remote starts in a row the battery level goes below whatever arbitrary level BMW has set.

I've only tried remote start a couple of time on my X5 and it seems to work fine.

From the manual:

Functional requirements

The vehicle is in idle state or standby state and not in drive-ready state.
Battery is sufficiently charged.
For reasons of safety, the system can only be switched on twice consecutively. The system will be available again as soon as the drive-ready state is activated and deactivated again.
The fuel tank capacity is sufficient.
Hood is closed.
Make sure that the vehicle's date and time are set correctly.
Open the vents to allow air to flow out.

Thanks. I suspect it's a regional block as I tried it directly after a 20 minute drive and it's not starting the engine at all now.

It flashes, the engine whirs like its about to kick in, then nothing and I get the error on the Display key. It then starts the ventilation but not the engine. The display key shows "Start Engine" or when the hvac is running "Stop Engine"

Do you have anything in your list of Connected Drive Features, specifically for Remote Start (or similar)?

I have Ventilate, Schedule Ventilation, Stop Ventilation.

It appears that the function is not really remote start, it's preconditioning, which in turn starts the engine to run the AC. Here is the config for it in my car:
