Nice greeting.... not
Anyone else tits off with how dirty the door sills get? You get a nice illuminated inscripted sill plate greeting you when you open the door and a right messy outer sill next to it because BMW cheapened out with not fitting a door seal to prevent this

yep, that's normal for the top of that side-skirt.
TBH I'm not sure you can do anything about it apart from washing the car and making sure the you point the high pressure water stream into that gap as you rinse. |

Yeah. I hate that too. On a positive note: I LIKE the color you chose for your X5.

Mine is mineral white so I see this after about 2 days after a wash. My mercedes is also, white - same issue. just goes with the territory when there's deep door sils, I suppose. We have a Murano, which doesn't have deep sils, so this isn't an issue there. Those doors drop below the sill instead of above, like on the G05.
I don't think it's BMW cheaping out becuase they have gaskets in places on the door that I've never seen on any other car. For example, the vertical door seam between the front and rear door - most cars I've owned don't have a gasket there, but the G05 does. I was very impressed when I saw that. Rubber is cheap so I don't think leaving out a gasket tips the cost scale any. I'm thinking there's a reason. One reason could be allowing water to exit if some were to get behind the door. |

But have you seen the gap width between the door and the sill? It’s that wide that it’s allowing water to wash up under it which is whats causing the bloody mess. A tighter gap or a gasket would prevent or considerably reduce this dirt.

BMW made a poor decision installing that body panel below the door. They should have done it like they did on the X3. The side panel is at the bottom of the door. That way, you never have to worry about your pant legs touching it.
