Gonna order X5 M60i and have questions

Hey guys,

I am getting ready to place an order an have some questions. I have a G80 M3 and my wife has a 2020 Audi SQ7 which has been great. Trying to figure a few things out.

1. 2 axle air suspension, does that mean it has full air ride, and if so can you adjust that to different drive modes? Essentially I want to be able to have it ride lower in most circumstances as I think it looks better.

2. I love Silverstone and it's only available in the synthetic leather. Any feedback on that? I sat in one with fake leather and if I didn't know I probably wouldn't have thought it wasn't leather. Only thing I noticed was not as good of a "new car smell"

3. I hate auto start in our Audis and just turn it off right when I get into our cars. I realize you can't disable unless you turn off traction control or sport mode, but honestly with the mini battery it seems to be a pretty seamless system (based off a 10 minutetest drive). Any real world feedback for me?

I think these are my main questions, Any feedback would help a lot.

Thanks,
Jesse

Can't speak to #1 as I don't have 2-axle air suspension
#2. I went with Ivory leather as the sensafin didn't feel right to me. I just cannot see fake leather in a $100k + vehicle
#3. I too hate auto start/stop but in the M60i it's very subtle and I no longer notice it.

You'll love it and it'll be a nice tech upgrade from the SQ7.

1. Yes, you can lower the suspension to Sport height. It should stay there unless you change Drive Modes to a non-sport mode (assuming they didn't change anything in the LCI).

I have an RS7 as well (C8) and now when I get into my RS7 or wife's SQ7 the screen looks sooooo small compared to the M3. Love the the new BMW tech personally. My only thing is the M60i is so quiet compared to SQ7, that thing is a beast and sounds so freaking good.
Thanks for the feedback 🤙

So 2 axle air means four corner air suspension right? Someone told me different so just checking.

The main problem with ASS is when it’s hot outside… I test drive a 2024 (I own a 2021) and it does not bother me during the winter but in the summer it’s enough to make me crazy with the AC slowing if I were not able to shut it off. I tried disabling traction in my 2021 and that does not disable ASS so I wonder if that loophole will be found in later updates?

ASS will not shut off the engine if the temperature differential in the cabin is large enough. If it does then just lift the brake slightly and it will start the engine.

We have Silverstone on our M60i and we love it. I have no complaints about the smell and don’t even think about it being fake leather.

We thought about getting Ivory to get real leather, but there was something off about the color that we didn’t love. Stuck with the Silverstone and have no regrets so far after 2 months of ownership.

Regarding the ASS system, I think the M60i does a MUCH better job than our SQ5. I honestly never disabled it in our Audi and just dealt with it, so now I don’t even notice it in the BMW. Basically numb to it at this point

You are upgrading/trading the SQ7. Correct? Just making sure you are not trying to compare the M3 to an SUV…

Yeah the sound is a bit muted compared to the SQ7 or M50i but it's a personal thing IMO. I've outgrown the need for "hey look at me" but I know what the car is capable of and that's all that matters.
BMW technology is leap years ahead of Audi and Porsche. Also, get the Driving Asst. Pro. The highway assist plus is worth it's weight in gold.

Yep. A boring looking sedan (better yet a hybrid) can save a lot of money in tickets.

You can put me solidly in that camp also and will likely never join the legion of silence.
Hilarious how some here pounce on anyone who wishes the M60i had at least the level of exhaust note the M50i has. We are not exactly looking for a straight open side header but don't want our high HP V8s to sound like a Prius either.

Hey Jesse! If they're any help, I have threads which may be of interest on my personal experience with the auto start/stop functionality here and the M60's exhaust here

Overall, I'm thrilled with the car - it's my fourth X5 and probably my favorite vehicle I've had. Just wanted to make that clear despite my two small gripes above and a small electrical gremlin I'm getting resolved.

A cold start creates a notable exhaust rumble. After about 10 seconds when the revs settle down the rumble is muted but still there. I have not heard (or not) the exhaust when somebody drives away as I'm the only one to drive it. Finally, we all know the performance is superb and nobody will mistake the M60i for a Prius.

The reason there is so much rumble during the cold start is not only the higher RPMs, but the turbo valve is also fully open
