2024 X5 trunk won’t close

Just bought the 2024 x5. Not sure what’s stopping it but the trunk won’t close. It starts to close and as soon as it gets close to the tai lights, it stops closing. Even manually pressing it down does not close it. Anyone else have that issue?

Warranty work, let the dealer figure it out.

Sounds like it may need an alignment or it is hitting something. Sounds like a visit to your dealer in on your schedule.

Does the bottom one close properly? If so, once it's closed, inspect its position to be sure it properly seated all the way and the latch in the center of it is properly situated/aligned and is not loose. If all that checks out, can you look around the left and right sides near where the spindle drives are (these are what opens and closes the rear hatch, they look like large gas shocks) and make sure there isn't anything foreign there that may be stopping it and that the two spindle drives are secured, top and bottom. If all that looks good, take a look at the little round hard rubber stops, maybe one or two of them are out of adjustment and are too high. You can experiment with these just be rotating them with your hand to screw them further in towards the body of the car which will allow the hatch to go further down. If they are too far down and the hatch closes, it will rattle as you drive if they are too far up, maybe they are stopping the hatch prematurely. If none of these work, then as others have said, let the dealer sort it out provided the you can drive the car with the hatch down but not locked in place. Don't drive with it open, exhaust fumes will get sucked inside. There is a reset procedure for it but I couldn't find it

My Ford Edge ST did that, just needed recalibrating like the sunroof.
Not sure for the BMW, but the Edge recalibration was: with the hatch in the uppermost position, engine running, hold down the close button until beeps.

Thank you!! Will give it a try. The bottom piece closes properly. Nothing stuck on either side.

For x5 it’s pressing the close lid button 3x repeatedly. Unfortunately it did not work

What? Scratched up tail light on a brand new car??? This is starting to smell a bit fishy to me. Like something bad happened and in the process of trying to resolve it, someone screwed up the alignment/proper closing of your hatch. Ugh!

I use "Preview", it's a default simple to use program that comes on every Apple puter.

Ummmm, without a doubt. I’d be very interested in getting the taillights replaced if they came damaged at delivery. Interested is an understatement. Honestly, it’s easy to miss minor dings at delivery….you’re all googly eyed looking at this magnificent piece of machinery…..boom, ya never even see it. That said, the dealer needs to be made aware of the issue the instant you become aware of it. Get those things replaced and congrats on the awesome vehicle!

Sorry I should have clarified. They got scratched up with this trunk issue. Before that, they were fine.

No no it happened once this trunk issue occurred. Yeah I waited a few months to get it (custom order) so I checked every inch at delivery haha.

Thank you!!

It worked fine for a few days… no idea what happened.

I just experienced this today!!! It seemed like the trunk was all of a sudden off center, by just a little, causing it to hit the inside corner of the tail light! I was tripping out because I could not get it to close. I didn’t want to drive with the trunk open. I took a video for proof. I finally got it to close by putting some pressure to move it away from the tail light then immediately called BMW to report the issue and scheduled a time tomorrow morning to have it checked out. I have never closed the trunk manually, so there is definitely an issue with the mechanics of the trunk. I will have more info soon.
