Steering Wheel Feel Difference Between X40i and M60i

Hi,

I am planning on ordering an X6 X40i soon, and have been test driving a bunch of cars. I drove X5 X40i and X5 M60i back to back, and I loved how the steering response was on the M60i. On the X40i however, I found the response to be sticky a bit for lack of a better word. I mean steering left or right, it felt to me that there was some resistance as if the steering wheel was stuck and after giving the wheel more torque then it would start to turn. I felt this on both the X40i and the X50e actually. I am just wondering if this was just me, or is this a known thing? The fact that I sensed it on both X40i and X50e tells me that it was not a one off.

Btw, both cars (M60i and X40i) comparisons were in comfort mode.

Just to bump this, has anyone else felt the steering difference between 40i and M60i?

Definitely there’s a difference in the 23 model year between the m50 M-adaptive suspension and the 45e with air. Way more travel on center but still solid. The M just really lines up at speed and you can feel that at the wheel.

I’ll note that more than anything, I feel bumps and such through the 22” 742Ms rather noticeably.

I recognize you’re asking about the LCI, but I imagine driving dynamics and the differences therein to be somewhat similar.

Curious, did the 40 and 50e have the Msport package?

I was surprised how much I preferred the Msport steering wheel and feel. I ended up getting a 40 w/Msport. I drive in Sport Individual almost always.

I recently drove loaner 2024 X5 xDrive 40i with M Sport package.
Steering wheel and response felt similar to my X6 M60i.
However, there was definitely some difference in suspension tuning. M60i feels more stable and sporty than 40i with M package.
Also, lack of rear wheel steering on xDrive 40i was noticeable when you perform turns.

^^^^^The M60i comes with a long list of upgrades. The rear wheel steering is one of them.

No difference between steering wheel on 2022 40i and 2023 M50i.

There is a difference in the air suspension setting on the 2 cars, M50i is set a bit firmer.

Yeah, none of those 2 cars (40i and M60i) had air suspension. I also drove the 50e which does have the air suspension, and I felt the same stickiness in the steering wheel. I am still getting an X6 40i, but I really wish that stickiness wouldn't be there once it arrives, or if it is there, I can fix it somehow. It doesn't help that nobody else has felt it tho, maybe I am just imagining things.
