After BMW, which car did you buy

Ok, I may get flamed for this but still posting

When/If it was time to move on from BMW, which car did you buy?

We currently lease a 2022 X5, and are looking for the next vehicle. Overall, I like the X5 but don't see keeping it past the lease term due to noisy/squealing brakes, gear selector issues and tire noise. Dealership looked at these but were either unable to either fix the problem or mentioned "that's the typical BMW behavior".

The problem, however, is that every car I test drive does not seem as exciting as the X5. Ideally, we want a reliable 3 row SUV but as fun as the X5. X7 is nice, but X5 issues scare me.

Oh ...I'm interested in what people post as well. Before buying the X5, I was in an X3 and loved it, just wanted something a bit bigger but before buying the X5 I test drove a plethora of SUV class cars. Some less and some more pricey than the X5. One by one, we ruled them out, each for their own reasons but I think mainly due to their drive train and performance.
Still, things change every year and I will do the same test drives before replacing the X5 so am interested in peoples choices and especially their rationale. So c'mon people, post

Test drive the new Cayenne. No 3rd row on the current variant but you’ll be impressed. What you won’t like is how terribly they lease. As a 50e owner that came from a Cayenne ..Porche’s new 3-Row all electric SUV planned for 2025 has me interested.

First bimmer was 2011 X5 then 2013 Audi S6, 2015 MB GL 350, 2017 X5, 2020 Cayenne and now 2024 X5 M60i. My favorite is Whatever is in my garage at the time but the current M60i may very well end up being my all-time fav. I set out to order a 2024 Cayenne S but didn’t want to spend $20k more for the same spec as the X5. Also considered the GLE 53 and Q8 but only for a minute. I did test drive a Genesis GL80 and liked it. Plenty of power and luxurious. Reasonably priced and leased well. I just couldn’t convince myself to buy a non German brand after 22 years of driving them.

If OP is looking for something that will run without much concern or worries, I don't think the Cayenne is the option.

Maybe the MDX Type s? I've not driven one, but I am curious.

What is the best driving non-Euro SUV?

Interesting.
Hard to believe that your dealer could not resolve whatever problem you have with your gear selector.
We had an M50i and now a '24 M60i and have none of those problems that you mention. Squealing brakes should also not be a problem for a dealer to rectify either.
If an X5 has too much tire noise then you do not want to even consider a Porsche Cayenne which would also cost you near 50% more.
Maybe a Bentley would be quite enough for you.

What issues in particular? I’ve had mine a month and have 2400 miles on it. No complaints. If you’re making a purchase decision on the basis of Bimmerpost complaints you’re making a big mistake. For every problem posted here there are thousands of happy buyers who have no issues nor do they even know of Bimmerpost's existence.

I would look towards Cayenne. They brought the V8 engine back to the S trim plus their interior definitely beats out the new “touch only” X5 LCI interior. I personally don’t really like the BMW build quality, the LCI interior/exterior and overall trims simplification (you no longer can order some features in the US which were available before, like luggage compartment, comfort access to all 4 doors, and so on).

Lexus TX or the soon-to-be-updated GX might be worth the look. When cross-shopping for our X5 we drove virtually every 2- and 3-row SUV on the market and while the X5 won out in our case, we were surprised at the RX500h which while nowhere near as powerful and responsible as what we got still proved to be rather fun and well designed. If enough of that DNA shows up in the appropriate TX model, it might be up your alley.

We have had Cayennes and can tell you that they are not worth the price and we all know that Porsche does not compete on price. Their tech is not on a par with BMW.
Many, many, things that are standard in a BMWs are painfully expensive options on a Porsche.
A reasonably equiped Cayenne S coupe will run you about 130K which is way out of the range of a base X5 or M60i.
Also keep in mind that the large displays running across the dash board are now industry standard in 90% of vehicles and the days of new car interiors with 75 buttons/switches have came and are now gone whether the old timers like it or not.

Boy, if you have problems with noisy brakes and clunky transmission don't even think about the Porsche. PDK is unbeatable for sporty driving but crap for stop/go traffic. And Porsche dealers will roll their eyes if you complain about brake squeal.

When it was time to replace my 2016 BMW X5 in 2022 I only considered two vehicles.
Another BMW X5 or the Lincoln aviator.
I was ready to get the Lincoln as I was able to get XPlan and the bmw dealers were still charging over a list
That afternoon I got an email from a different BMW dealer who had taken delivery of a new 2022 BMW X5M sport in arctic gray and pretty much all the equipment I was looking for. I did have to pay MSRP.
Here’s how I knew I made the right decision.
I was absolutely ecstatic to get another X5 and the Lincoln was just OK. I’m getting another car.
There’s nothing like BMW

2024 Cayenne interior is a big step back. I had a 2022 Cayenne and recently test drove a 2024 Cayenne with leather and all the options. It feels too plastici and less premium compared to last gen Cayenne or X6/X7. They cut corners to increase margins and it shows. However, this is the trend everyone is heading towards and I am sure the next all new generation of X5 will feel more plastici than current gen. That said, I dearly miss how Cayenne drives and will go back at some point. BMW driving feel is just too numb compared to Porsche regardless of how much M options you add to it and the M cars are too stiff as daily drivers. Porsche has figured out the formula really well but in they are terrible value for $ and BMW is better in that regard.

For me maybe MB's sportier SUV. My other consideration might be Genesis SUV (ev or non ev), rented one really liked it.

Along those lines, who recently came TO BMW from another brand? I had a 2020 Ram 1500 Limited and got tired of its ponderous size and terrible mileage. Truck was great with no problems though. My X5 is great, but has a number of quirks that I am getting used to.

I had a 2011 Cayanne S that I purchased new. It was a good vehicle until it wasn’t. I had major problems with the drivetrain after 60,000 miles which, after I got rid of it, turned out to be a known issue resulting in recalls and class action lawsuits. Porsche didn’t stand behind the vehicle which was very off-putting to me. I traded it for another X5. While owning BMWs for over 30 years, I found that they stand behind their cars and will support extreme/uncommon mechanical incidents. That was a notch on the loyalty scale for me.

That. Right. There.

I have an Excursion, and my wife drives a 45e, but when I went shopping for the first and only nice car I've ever called my own, I looked no further than a GX460. Love it.

The Jaguar F-Pace has been a healthy dose of fun while remaining practical as a family hauler. It is surprisingly quiet while cruising along at highway speeds and effortlessly transitions between modes. Throughout the ownership of an F-Pace, it redefined the general idea of an "SUV" for me. Sitting behind the wheel, you feel connected to the road, unlike pretty much any other SUV. It does a great job at cornering and gives you a sense of confidence to push through corners at higher speeds.

As an overall package, you'll sacrifice some practicality but if 2 rows and decent cargo space is all you need on a day-to-day basis, then I'd highly recommend a test drive.

I had 5 Audis before leaping to my first BMW with the X5 M60i. I think there are pros and cons to both brands, had no issues with Audi, but so far loving the BMW!
