X5 50e Timeline

Happy to say the 50e arrived at the dealership today, picking it up tomorrow. Just throwing this timeline out there for others, seems really fast compared to what others are seeing.

Requested Allocation January 31

Allocation received Aug 2

Confirmed build sheet Aug 4 and was told it would be built in Sep for late Sep delivery maybe early Oct.

Tracking number received August 12

Production Began August around the 17th, didn't catch the exact day

Awaiting Carrier Assignment August 24th.

Arrived at Dealership August 29th.

Many of the steps on the tracker went all at once so either everything was happening really fast or it doesn't get updated in real time.

Anyway, there you go. Trading in a 2021 M5 comp, she was a fast, beautiful mess, will miss her.

That was fast. I locked in mine in before yours but it’s not being built until this Friday (if all goes well).

So once allocation is received it’s around 1 month to delivery but you waited since Jan for the allocation? I’m just wondering if I walked in and order one today would I be able to get it before year end?

The OP had an extremely long wait so don't use that to judge a normal situation. From what we have seen very few dealers have an order bank filled with requests so you should be able to get an allocation. Currently that would mean an October (September if very lucky) build and delivery for you.

Ask the dealer when their next allocation is. When I went through this recently with SoCal dealers most of them had a build allocation within 3 weeks.

Thanks I reached out to two separate one today and one said 5 month and the other said 6 month. I feel that’s just a canned response from the sales but who knows. Will continue to ask.

Could be regional too. Wouldn't surprise me if BMW wants to pump lots of PHEVs to CA dealers.

Likely were unless for some reason they recently built up big waiting lists. We have not seen that type of delay from Texas dealers that I can recall.

Best to not ask when it will be delivered but rather if they have an available allocation. If they do then you know it will be built within the next two months. Delivery to Texas take a few days once dispatched.

Thanks I will reach out tomorrow and ask other dealers if they have any allocation available instead.

Still waiting

My X5 50E was built on 8/9 and ready for shipment. It was supposed to arrive 2 weeks ago. Apparently there was an issue with the Hands off driving which was corrected now its a knee airbag issue. I have a 2023 X5 40 I. I am excited to go hybrid but the constant delays are making me second guess getting the 2024. Anyone else dealing with this?

The knee bag issue may have either resolved itself or was a false alarm

They often include the largest population at first and then through testing, supplier and assembly records they update the vehicles affected.

That is true but no one told Genius yet. Unfortunately unless you are asking Genius your build week, it usually is best to ignore what Genius says.

So who was the genius that decided to call it "Genius"?
