I have the extended shadowline trim and i've been pondering to myself whether they are smoked or not.
Havent seen it up against a non-shadowline yet. Last edited by BryanC84; 07-20-2020 at 01:25 PM.. |

I was behind a white M-Sport with the extended shadowline the other day and was wondering the same, but then a couple days later saw a black or carbon black m-sport with shadowline and the lights appeared noticeably "brighter" (lights off, just the housing) than on the white X5. I think it's the contrast of the colors playing tricks on us. That said, I'd love to get mine smoked some more when I get my car, but I'm hesitant due to German TÜV laws...

I used to lightly smoke/tint my taillights. That is, until I got rear-ended.
The person who hit me, their insurance company tried to deny the claim (in the US when you rear-end someone it is always your fault) due to the tint. I am with State Farm and they were not having it, but my body shop guy said he had seen other lesser insurance companies deny those claims. In the past, when a car came in that had tinted tails, he immediately stripped the tint to protect the insured before the adjuster got there to avoid complication. Plus, CA police will give you a ticket given the chance. So I stopped tinting aftermarket.
