Critique my wife's X5 45e build!

Wife and I are considering ordering a 45e and have delved into the pricing guide since the online configurator isn't live. Please let us know of anything we should change or consider!

X Line 45e
Arctic Grey
Black Vernasca
Aluminum Dark Mesh trim
M Sport Trim
Premium Package
Climate Comfort Package
Extended Shadowline
Rear Sun Shades
741M wheels

MSRP ~73k

Sacrifices due to chip shortage:
- HK sound
- Wireless charging

Anything you would add, subtract or change? We are up in the air considering market conditions where we have to pay close to MSRP and go without features.

I’d forgo the 741M wheels as you pay an upcharge plus have to buy another set of tires. Also it doesn’t change the look that much.

I’d also add the driving professing package.

You mean because they come with summer performance tires?

21" wheels only come with summer tires so you'll need another set of rims + tires for winter in the midwest. Or at least pay for tires and a change every season. I found run flat 21" staggered setup tires are difficult to find & expensive (you cannot use the non RF 21" staggered options due to no spare w/ a 45e). As long as you're OK w/ the expense of the multiple wheel set of 21" staggered.

I won't buy another SUV without surround cameras (Parking package) personally.

For me & commuting the Driving Assistance Pro is required for me, but if the vehicle will just be driving on locals around town it can probably be left off.

I found a huge difference between the regular leather and Merino, but that requires the multi-contour seats as well.

Enjoy your new X5!

We will have to stick with the standard 20" rims...didn't catch that the 21's are performance tires on the build sheet. Shame - the style of the 21's is much better! At least that frees up $950.

I have the parking package on my X3MC and hardly use it and my wife says she wouldn't use it either which is why we skipped it. Although it may still be worth adding.

DAP is something she really won't use a lot given her commute. I'm also skeptical of some of the autonomous driving features as the Lane Keep Assist in my X3M is basically embarrassingly bad and borderline unsafe. Perhaps it's better on the X5.

IMO the best time to use dap is in traffic. The adaptive cruise control and traffic jam assist are great!

I extensively looked into getting the 21+ wheels as I like the look better but it would be hassle and add the $950 plus $2-3k for another set of tires plus paying someone to switch them out. It’s just not worth it esp given the comfort of the 20s is better anyway.

Another option to consider is the tow hitch or the m sport brakes in blue or red. The sport brakes are only $650, look nicer (esp blue with artic grey), and are better brakes.

Btw we have almost same build, mine due at dealer end of month.

- 45e Arctic Grey
- Black Vernasca Leather
- Tetragon Trim
- m sport package
- premium package
- park assist package
- drivers pro package
- extended shadowline trim
- blue brake calipers
- tow hitch
- 4 zone climate control
- heated armrests and steering wheel

Kinda funny, I was in the same boat with the rim situation. I wanted the 22" all black rims, but it's not possible with the 3rd row seat option. I went with the 741 option, but after looking at pictures and seeing the 20" rims, it actually looks a lot better. And to the other folks that have pointed it out, you'll end up spending more money on another set of rims or winter tires. In the end it looks better and more practical for snow. Cheaper too!

I also recommend the parking assistance package. My wife wanted it for the 3D view camera which is pretty sweet.

I also recommend the MSport Blue or Red brakes. A great value for $650.

As others have mentioned, you should seriously the DAP and Parking Assistance packages. In addition to the driving features you also get extra safety features.

Just to be clear - blind spot monitoring and regular adaptive cruise is standard, correct?

I would consider the spare tire package. Seems like good insurance for $150. Best of luck with whatever options you choose.

If multi-contour seats are still available, I'd highly recommend them.

When you think about it, the seats are used every second you're in the vehicle.

A shout out for getting Tetragon trim; I had to take my 45e off the lot and it has anthracite wood...I much prefer the aluminum look.

Also, if the goal is to be economical with your build but still practical, unless you have rear seat passengers often, save yourself $250 and chuck those rear shades.

Blind spot monitoring is standard but not adaptive cruise, only "regular" cruise is standard.

I went with the 21" wheels because I wanted the increased speed limiter. At the moment, considering purchasing a set of 20s for the winter.

Only thing I would change is: Add DAPP and spare tire kit.

You should SERIOUSLY consider adding DAPP and the spare tire kit.

Spare tire kit is a no brainer. Its cheaper buying it with the car than it is purchasing it after. If I'm not mistaken $650 cheaper.

DAPP is not just a nice to have, it is a need to have whether you're using it on the highway or stuck in traffic. Just my 2cents.

Spare tire kit not available with the 45e because of the battery.

BMW should still let 45e owners buy the spare kit, eh?

that was a side effect of my lack of knowledge of bimmers (this is my first) and the speed limiter. I bought with 21" for looks and received in the dead of winter. coming with summer performance tires, I couldn't find 21" RFT all-season in staggered sizes so I switched to 20" square mainly for future convenience, though I'm really happy with the Rohana wheels. (I didn't want to deal with storing seasonal sets of tires, hence the all-season.)

I might actually purchase a 20" square and make it my primary in the future. Not 100% sure yet.

What all-season runflat tires will come with the 20" wheel from Msport pkg?
How are they compared to the 21" performance runflat (Pirelli P Zero)?
