Preordering BMW X5 and it will be weeks before I get delivery. When do I have to decide on financing if not choosing dealer financing. Is it at the time of pre-order or when the order is delivered to the dealership.

Welcome to the forum. You will need to have financing set up when it is delivered.

It'll be interesting to what the rates will be for us who are picking up vehicles in October/November/December.

Do you have your dealer pull your credit already? If they do your rate is locked for 3 months I think. I just signed my finance paperwork an hour ago, I got 4.49, which I think is 3.49+1% when I pre ordered it in June. It's certainly better than whatever BMW FS is offering right now and almost same as my local CU with rebate.

How did you know your rate? I was approved by BMWFS till end of next month but have no idea at what apr and the prelim numbers sheet I signed is just the box with term and monthly payment options as a ballpark sorta this is what it will look like. Called bmw FS and they said they don’t know the rate tiers and it’s all the dealer.

Your CA should have told you the rate they were going to offer you.
