The worst part of the car - dirty door jambs

Does anyone know why BMW won't make doors that cover the lower door frame? It gets dirty after a drive in the wet, unless you are taller than average then your pants will inevitable rub on it when getting in/out of the car.

This is one of the worst part of an otherwise very satisfying vehicle.

Just try to keep it clean, been that way with all my cars. I hate it but it is what it is. I so love it when I wash the car and that area is spotless but a day later, its a diff story - ugh.

I use hybrid wax and sealant to keep water beading as possible and use clean and wax spray for clean up.

Garage List
Or just buy an Audi. There are a few downsides to that approach though...

Dirty car is one thing, but having to swipe it with you pants as you get in and out is another thing.

I have owned 4 cars (Honda, Nissan, Mercedes, Ford), and never had this issue.

I am thinking, putting some kind of a door seal along the bottom of the door panel could help?

When I was getting quotes for PPF and Ceramic Coating these areas were recommended to get protected, the PPF would prevent scratches and the Ceramic Coating should keep the muck off.

It is definitely a bad design and one BMW has not thought through.

I am still trying to work out how to wash the inside door area - it is a PITA.
Any clues how to do this properly?

The doors have to drain so a flap over that area is a bad idea. I have had rust issues with Audis in the past because of this. What happens with Audi door seal/flap is you get rust where the flap meets the door so that idea isn’t a good one.

I wax and detail that area and it helps a lot. This is not a new issue and is very common with cars from BMW, Porsche, etc.... Make sure you clean around the doors regularly and you won’t get heavy dirt draining on the sills.
Use a detail spray and towel over the sills after you wash your car and it will that area immaculate. I have had to do this for decades with Porsche.
