Noise from steering adjustment
Just bought an x5. Beautiful car. But right as I get home, when I turn the car off and about to leave, as the steering wheel adjusts back to neutral position, I hear a nasty creaking noise. I start the car back up again and as the steering wheel is moving towards my set position, it makes that same creaking noise. Anyone know what that is?

If you do get yours fixed, I'd love to hear what was wrong. I occasionally have this happen. I wish it was consistent enough to bring in for service, but it might happen a couple of times a month. They'll never be able to reproduce it.

My 2014 X5 has had the same noise issue since I bought it new. Dealer has not been able to make it go away entirely but was able to quiet it down a bit by shifting some parts. In the dealer's defense, I did not permit the shop to take the column apart in fear of introducing a whole new set of squeaks and groans. It still happens a few times a month (more when it's cold) and I have learned to accept/ignore it.

Mine had the same sound and they replaced the steering column too, they said it was a problem with the last gen x5 but the redesigned g05 should have that fixed. I call bs. Glad yours is fixed too. |
