2020 X5 Extended warranty and Maintenance Plans
Do you guys recommend getting an extended warranty plan for the X5? They seem rather expensive however I found some good pricing at a dealer from California.
More importantly, I know that maintenance is included for 36K miles however there are things that aren't covered like the brake pads, wiper blades etc. I am trying to decide if I should spend money to upgrade to a maintenance plan or not. |

Lot's of info on this topic here if you search. however, there are 2 camps - those that think these cars are too expensive and complex to own out of warranty and those that choose to self insure. you need to decide what works best for you. Know that insurance in general does not benefit you.
You should absolutely shop around amongst dealers. Extended warranties are DEFINITELY negotiable. shop around. you can also check 3rd party outfits like Fidelity to compare. Good luck |

I did buy the extended warranty. My previous car was a Lexus LS460, which is supposed to be one of the most reliable cars, but I spent enough out of pocket on it to have paid for the cost of my BMW warranty.
I got 5 years 100,000 miles for about $4,100. For the prepaid maintenance, it is indeed a math problem. Over a 100,000 mile period, you will likely save some money. However, over any given interval, you may not. The first three years, if you need brakes, you save a lot of money, but if you don't you need to sign up for the next interval. You must purchase the first 3 years to be eligible to purchase additional years, but you can add on anytime. You can see the cost at the MyBMW site, and the cost should not go up. My concern is that normally I put on 20,000 miles a year. With the shelter on place likely to be with us periodically over the next 2-3 years, I may not get close to that, so the money may be wasted. Why not wait to see if you'll be keeping the car post warranty, then decide 2 or 3 weeks prior and then make the investment for extended warranty. No need to give them your hard earned ~$2,500 up front....as for the brake pads, you will likely replace one set in the first four years...not a huge expense. My opinion.

Extended warranty is a different story. If something major goes wrong after car is out of warranty it could cost more than an extended warranty. I can get a 7/75K BMW warranty for 3650 and that is from out of state. That same warranty in Florida is almost 6K. Don't buy a car warranty in Florida. The state mandates the prices and a dealer cannot discount them. Go to another state and they can discount the warranty. I think I can do better than 3650. It will take a lot of phone calls but might be worth it. |

Take the $$$ you would have spent for either plan, or both, and put it in the cookie jar to be used for any expenses that would have otherwise been included.
Odds are in your favor. |

I got the extended warranty (7yr 120k km) for $4,920 CAD. New car comes with warranty for 4yrs, so I got 3 extra year. Mine is a m50i. After reading the horrible story of that N63, I decided to purchase the warranty because I am hoping to keep the car for 7-10yrs....

Extended Warranty
After seeing several posts on here about various warranty companies, I negotiated a 5yr 125k mile plan after the factory 4yr 50k with Patriot for $2,250, spoke with Ben Martin.

New delivery
Due to take delivery tomorrow (X5 40), received the tire, extended warranty and extended maintenance information today. New to BMW ownership and never bought extended packages with other brands, looking for best value.

Depends on your driving style. My wife has had her 2018 X6 for 3yrs now with her 36 month/12k miles lease ending next month. She only had to replace tires a few weeks ago. Brakes are still good...but she is a very mild driver.
If you don't have a heavy foot on the brakes and only driving less than 12k miles/yr then u probably don't need the extended warranty. If you will drive the car hard then get it as the cost of replacing tires and brakes will add up quickly. Keep in mind her tires are $500 a pop (sale and labor) so that's $2000 total to replace the 4 tires only. |

If you are keeping the car for only 36months lease, no need for additional warranty/maintenance in my opinion. |
