Tap plug for fusebox...

Where did you get the nifty tap plug to connect into the fuse box?

Why not use a wire tap to the rear view mirror?

Because the hard-wire adapter harness from Viofo has about 10 feet of cable before the pigtail split-out of the actual wires...
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Also, my dash cam needs both a full time power connection as well as an ignition-switched connection, so I have to go under the dash anyhow.

Can the low voltage cut off be adjusted, and which fuses did you use for this? I thought it just connected to constant on with low voltage cut off, did not need switched?

I have a Viofo A129 Pro Duo dash cam, so my unit's power needs may be completely different than most dash cams or radar detectors.

Could you tell us which fuse slot this was hooked up to?

I had to post this - good humor amidst chaos and confusion.
BTW - thanks for sharing the info, truly helpful, I would want to get it installed myself, someday, when I don't get nightmares on the thought of opening the panels myself

That's dashcam specific requirement, mine is only 2 wire install, just one line that you can hook up to "switched" or "constant" not both, and just ground. It's really not that difficult and it comes with fuse already installed with in-line protection. The hardest part is finding the right fuse which is really simply one location that everyone can use.

It's much better if we can locate a blank fuse slot that's powered when the car is running and I can use that, I don't need while parked (which would be constant)

This is why I asked which fuse earlier poster used, but no reply so far.

Hello all, new here.
I just got a 2018 X5 and just finished installing my dashcam via mirror power tap. took a little trial and error and creativity but i could now do it in 20-30 minutes. if anyone needs the summary, let me know and i might be able to save you some time.

Any chance you could provide the information/helpful tips?

I'd rather tap the mirror than run the wire to the fuse box, but I may do that if this is tough/potential to damage something. I do not want to splice or cut wires as I need this to be 100% reversible.

Hi FormerMDXer wondering if you had any suggestions for starbai and myself?

I haven't done it yet, but they have fuse taps that appear to be easy to use and remove.

Thank You, very nice write up and pictures always help. Only question is this for switched or constant on ? I 'm looking at installing my radar on my 2022 X6M and having a hard time finding a powered switch (on/off ) with car.

I thought I could use the one of power ports (USB in tray in front of cup hollders, smaller USB in compartment under arm rest) or the cigarette port in the cargo area but they all seem to be constant on .

My car was delivered without fuse card (at least for the rear fuse box), I had to contact BMW NA and they sent me a link. I am studing the fuse card to find something that is switched but not anything critical (I was hoping for the power port in cargo area I never use it for anything).

You write up will help me to at least have a starting point.

Any answer of the slot to use for a "switched" fuse?
I may just slide the wire into an exisiting fuse if I can determine which is "switched" so when the car is off, power to the detector is off.
----------------------------------
I started tapping each fuse under the passenger box but each seemed live (not switched) so guess I may just have to remember to unplug my detector each time I exit the car (its near my on the driver side to not to hard).
