X6 40i to X5 M50i

Back in April I ordered my X6 40i, it arrived in the UK mid August and I was due to take delivery on the 1st September (new plates).
Dealer called me a few days before pick up to tell me theives had broke into the yard and stripped 6 new cars of their parts, all 6 would be written off including mine. He offered me an 'express' reorder but in a heartbeat I changed to X5 M50i, rest of the spec stayed exactly the same.

So I'm curious to know, is there anybody else wished they had the chance to change their model or spec right before delivery?

The M50i is a monster. We discussed this at length last year with the 50i M-Sport vs 40i. The new M50i just takes it up even further in performance. The V8TT feels like a dog on a chain all the time. Gratuitous power and torque anywhere and at any speed. You really have to show tremendous restraint if you want to keep your drivers license.

Just kidding - I'm sure the 50i will be lovely, I'm looking at a 40i but tempted to call PL and ask for the same spec in a 50i, out of curiosity.

I've had an F15 and E70 before which I loved, then switched to Jag F-Pace (??),. Kinda liked the shape so thought I'd go with the X6 this time around. When the opportunity came up to change my order i decided to change back to X5 and M50I.... (always wanted one)

You'll love the M50i, I got the M50D (more economical) and they're a treat to drive, the M makes a big difference

Alright so you got cold feet. Understandable. I am pondering X6 over X5. Indo like the look of both and I like the idea that the X6 drives more like a sedan. I still need to drive the X6. I have driven the X5 M50i with and without DHP. I am definitely getting M50i with DHP. Now which form factor. The X5 definitely didn't want to attach the corner like my M550i and hopeful the X6 splits the difference.

Why would you believe the X6 drives more like a sedan than a X5?? There is no difference in the handling between the X5 and X6 when equipped equally. The X6 is purely cosmetics. The X6 has noticeably less usable cargo/suitcase space in the rear. I actually did a suitcase test at my dealership last year.

It is lower and has a lower center of gravity. Many write ups have talked about this. Some of the instrument tests have shown this too. For example the skid pad test was 0.94 for the M550i, 0.92 for the X6 and 0.91 for the X5.

I went back and forth few times because I love the X5 but I also like the front end of the X6 as well as the tail lights of the 6 so I ordered the x6 m50, however my sales rep made me an offer I couldn't refuse on an M850gc so I caved.

I just ordered the an X6 40i and no regret, waiting now for delivery. The X5 looks like every other SUV in the market (I still like it ... don't get me wrong) but the X6 is more distinctive This car will be a daily car for me, so the V8 is overkill for the purpose. The straight six is more than capable. Last point, as mentioned above, yes the X6 drives a bit better than the X5

I am wondering if I should look at the X5M and X6M. I did not really want to spend that money.
