Help with two car seats

Hey guys

Considering buying a 2018 x5. One of the big criteria is that in the back row we can fit two car seats and have enough space for an adult.
I tried that today in a 2020 x5 and I could fit two car seats using seatbelt in the side and middle seat. That worked well because it left one side seat for an adult. It was a little snug for me but my wife fitted well.
So based on that I am leaning towards buying a pre owned 2018 X5.
However wanted to check and make sure 2018 and 2020 model dimensions are similar. Also anything else I might be missing?

They are two different generations of the X5. They probably are similar but not the same.

I would take the car seats along to see the 2018 model, and try them out. Just tell the dealer/seller that its a pre-requisite the back seats can fit your two child seats, easy....

2020 X5 is slightly bigger than the 2018 if you are going by official specs. I had both generation X5 with two car seats in the back and I could fit an adult back there fine. It all comes down to what brand car seats you have. Diono and Clek have pretty narrow seats that could even fit 3 across easily.

James has the best solution but I assume you are buying site unseen/at a distance and that is why you are asking. Here is the specs comparison for the rear in case it helps.

I have two Britax seats (convertible for the 2 yr old & full booster for the 6 yr old) in the back of our 2019. I'm 6'2, and while not the most comfortable, can fit in the middle seat between them. My wife, at 5'4", can ride back there on long road trips with ease. I brought the seats to a local dealer to try them out before we ordered our car from factory.

Thanks all. We are planning to get Diono seats too.

Because used 2018 I am planning to buy is from a dealer slightly far, before going there all the way I decided to try out fit in the local dealer with 2020 x5. Given that it fitted well, I am seriously considering 2018 x5.

We have two very bulky car seats in my wife's '19 and there is still enough space for an adult to sit next to them. I can tell you with (almost) absolute certainty that you will have no problem at all with the Diono, even in an '18. (I have the Diono in my 3 series and I can probably fit two of them with enough space for an adult to sit too!)
