2020 M50i - does the head rest get in the way

I'm in the shopping stage, looking at the M50i, but my one local dealer has not had one in stock. So I test drove a 40i, twice. But then I got a call - a used 2020 M50i was on the lot. So I went for another drive and it was excellent, except the head rest seemed too far forward. It was a bit bothersome, and did not appear to be adjustable. The comfort seats in the 2021 40i did not have that issue and seemed normal. Any one else notice this, is there an adjustment, am I just insane, or all of the above?

May have been from the multi-contour seating. The upper half of the seat back can tilt forwards and backwards which also impacts the headrest position. Its probably a simple fix of just adjusting the upper seat back backwards a bit.

Depending on the seats you have, there's either a button down beside the seat cushion, or a button on the side of the headrest you can press that will allow you to move the headrest forward or back (and up/down).

Yes - there is a rocker switch on the large button that adjusts the seatback recline. Also moving seatback recline button up and down adjusts the height of the headrest. I have only had my M50i for a few weeks, but the seats are very comfortable.

As others have said, it must have been the way the seat was adjusted. The multi-contour seats in the M50i are the same as the ones for the 40i.

The top of the seat was adjusted (bent) forward. I guarantee it, as I have noticed this before when my wife adjust her seat and I sit there.

Thank you all who responded. I told my wife we would get good answers here - I've been reading bimmerpost for weeks, and have been amazed at how helpful and knowledgeable so people many have been.

Ditto what others said above. If you get a chance to go back to check out the vehicle again...take note of #3 in the illustration above...which adjusts the upper seat back. It articulates only the upper portion of the seat back which allows for differences in where a person's spine curves. The lumbar features adjusts for the lower curvature of the spine...the upper articulating feature of the MC seats allows for more specificity adjusting for the upper portion or shoulder area which can vary from person to person.

Hi, Went back to the dealer today and you are exactly correct, the headrest was in the most forward position, and that button adjusted it.

Thank you. That was a huge help.
