Roof rack

Just got me a 50i sitting on the dealer lot with all the options that I wanted on the 40i I ordered. The 40i has been sitting in Awaiting Carrier state for almost a month and got impatient waiting. Glad I got the V8! So fast and the sound is awesome!

The question is will the roof rack cross bars from the prior generation X5 work on this G05 or will there be new ones available? Need it to carry skis and snowboards. My prior Infiniti QX80 has plenty of interior room for this stuff.

They work. They claimed to have sold me "G05 Base System" when I went into my dealer parts department but when I was installing them they said "F15" on the underside. The fronts went in without a problem. The rear bar I had to angle and then slide into place. That could be by design I dunno. But they work just fine.

Good news was going to try mine once I have the car before I order g05 ones, they show a different part number for them but that is great they fit, saves a few bucks!

Did you ever try this? I have an OEM rack for the E70. Looks identical to the one being sold for G05. Think it will work?

Has anyone tried the new roof rack design or any other roof racks with the new G05 besides the older OEM one?

I bought Thule Wingbar for my G05.

It was dedicated for G05 but they had it on stock so i think they have to be the same for F15 and G05.

I have a F15 cross bar from my previous X5 and it didn't fit my G05. How did you make it fit? I found the bar to be too long for the rack.

That's what I thought at first but figured it out. Loosen it, make sure the far side is where you want it, put the other side at an angle, and slide on. Then just make sure they're lined up and tighten down.

Does anyone have an idea as to how long it takes Thule to come out with cross bars for a new vehicle? The Thule Aeros are super low profile.

Where you able to get the right placement for the cross bars?

Yeah. Followed the guide using the recommended distance from front of rail to first crossbar and then distance from front crossbar to rear. I've taken a Thule on 3 road trips so far.

I wanted to wait but we had a bunch of trips planned for family events so I just needed to buy the BMW ones. They can be noisy. I'll probably upgrade once they do.

Thule system for G05:

- Thule 460R Rapid Podium Foot Pack (4)

- Thule 53” Aeroblade Cross Bars (Pair) - ARB53

- Thule 4023 fit kit

Each link above provides everything you need, the 4 feet, the two bars, the set of 4 clamps that are specific to the G05 roof rails. You could get the 47 inch Aeroblade cross bars if you don’t want the ends to extend - with the 53 inch, they extend about 3 inches on both sides, which I need.

If you wanted a fixed bar system, I believe the Thule 7603 system will fit the G05 and you would still need the 4023 fit kit.

Ok, I'll try again. I'm glad that this will fit. I was about to put it up on the classified section and buy a thule.

Are you sure these will fot properly? When you search the Thule site by vehicle it yields no results for the G05

Yep - mounting rails are the same F15 to G05. Based on reports that the OEM rack from an F15 fits on a G05, these Thule systems ought to as well.

If you want to be safe, wait until this weekend. I have the 53 inch rails and feet/mounting kit arriving today. Ill chuck in on Sat AM and report back.

Sounds good. I already have the mounting feet in my Jeep. I assume those are universal for all cars???
