Ok, that makes sense. My car didn’t have one, my dealer said there were issues with it and I really haven’t bothered to pursue it.

No, it works fine, Apple has issues due to how they implemented Apple Pay. I use my key card sometimes but haven't set up my S9+ yet

I don't have the issue with my Android based phone (Samsung S9+ or Note 8) so it's an Apple issue. Having a payment app open while near an NFC antenna is not the best way of doing things ie what's happening with iPhones here. I do agree that BMW should have a way of disabling this but it's not really their fault directly.
As a software developer myself, I cannot test my software on just one type of device and if it just doesn't work correctly on another type of device then say it isn't my problem. I either make sure it works for everyone in the same way, or I don't ship it. BMW have shipped a half-baked solution just so they can start selling the car. They should have added this option as a future software update after they've finished developing it correctly.
I see your point and agree about that option. To be fair there's some fault on both sides. I find it odd how BMW doesn't support Android like it does Apple yet has issues with Apple devices use of NFC

I have the same issue and it's not on Auto. Just loud compared to my other BMW (F36) at the lowest fan setting.

Same. It's not crazy loud, but when the radio is off, I can always hear the fans even on the lowest setting and with auto off.

interesting, mines silent up to manual level 3 and sometimes in Auto depending on ambient temps and my desired temperature.

As a software testing engineer myself, just want to let you know based on over 25 years' experience that rule of thumb is "ship it and plan to fix remaining bugs in next release " when it comes to the deadline.

I agree, but I wasn't talking about minor bugs. I was talking about a feature that outright just doesn't work at all. Not only that, but it even makes for a worse user experience.

I'm ok with the digital key not working on iPhones, but I'm not ok with how it affects the wireless charging tray. The charging tray is supposed to charge the phone, not decrease the battery level.

I'm not asking that BMW change how iPhones work, or even throw out the idea as a whole, I'm just asking for a "Disable Digital Key" option in the car's settings that just disables the NFC reader in the wireless charging tray.

Has anyone seen an Idrive update pushed over the air? Interested to see what BMW offers through these OTA updates or whether you'll still need a full istep upgrade to get most of the Idrive fixes.

I was told that's glue under the leather. I was told they would replace it.

I don't even have my car yet, but don't get me started on using a phone as a key! I have a tesla model 3. There is no keyfob for that car, just the phone (and a card). A lot of people find that regardless of operating system the phone uses, that the function of unlocking the door and driving the car is intermittent! Entering and driving the car are basic functions that should work 100% of the time! Thank goodness the BMW at least has a key fob!

iDrive reboots quite frequently, "check control" errors and rear seats have excessive wrinkles in leather.

Had my first glitch when taking wife's car to work. iDrive froze while getting on road, had to do the 30 second reset. My previous prior iDrive cars never did this. A 2010 E90 and a 2017 G30...

Has anyone figured out how to get the "kick to open" feature to work better?

The only way I have been able to get it to work "flawlessly" on any BMW I have owned is doing a quick soccer/futbol style kick directly under the bumper where the rear roundel is located. Use the roundel as a guide to where the sensor is under the bumper.
