How Long Should I Wait Before Waxing My New X5?
I see lots of contradicting information on-line about how long to wait before waxing a new car. Some say at least 60 days to allow for outgassing of the paint. Other sites say do it immediately especially if the paint was baked on at the factory.
What is the real story with BMWs? |

You will see on these forums some of us have put either a ceramic coating, PPF or both on their BMW soon as they took delivery. I'm pretty sure you can wax your vehicle whenever you're ready. No need to wait.

covered in PPF within 7 days of delivery
I had the front end done with PPF within 7 days of taking delivery. The people installing the PPF said to wait 2 weeks before putting on any kind of ceramic coating to let the PPF cure. Vehicle is now 3 weeks old and just put a layer of graphene wax on.. So far so good

I applied multiple coats of ceramic at the dealership, before taking delivery (good relationship with the dealer). Personally, I’ll never return to wax or paint sealant for a daily driver.

Older paints, mainly enamel, took a long time to cure, but also outgassed a bunch of volatile chemicals that are either illegal or frowned upon today. The paint used on a modern BMW dries quite quickly, and should not be impacted by adding some protection to it when your first get it.
