I have only owned one Ferrari for a reason. Everything is German before and after the Ferrari. The idea of taking my family accross country in a Italian vehicle would give me night sweats. The RR was bad enough and was gone in under 7 months. BMW or MB in M or AMG flavor is the only way I would go for the OP. Dealer network should also be considered.

OP, I have similar feelings. I like the X5 but I don't love it. Mine is a lease so I'm in it for 3 years. With the pandemic, we have postponed several long road trips and thus we have put less than 7000 miles on it in 18 months. At this rate we'll have used only half the miles allowed by our lease. I think I'm just not an SUV/SAV person and likely will go back to a sporty sedan.

I have a fully loaded 50. I am not in love with it. I think part of it might be because the m50 came out and my car is no longer up there. The X5M also is out now. When I bought my car it was the best of the X5.

If you have a keep up with the Joneses mentality you’ll always be chasing happiness. You need to change your way of thinking and not your cars.

Oh god this reminds me of the debates we used to have on the M4 forums re: Quadriplegic or whatever it is. It’s an Alfa at the end of the day and no point saying otherwise. The very fact people make these arguments suggests it’s lacking something.

My 50 feels like it is lacking performance. Maybe it's because I got the air suspension and it feels like an s-class than a performance SUV. I dont feel like this with my other car. Now I love driving my X3m40i. It feels like a sporty car, comfort is definitely not on the top of the list. It's no faster than the X5 I have. However the exhaust makes cracking noises at any speed which makes me giggle. It's a fun car to take out for short trips I was going to remove the flap from my X5 exhaust but people are saying it hurts performance. |

Upon my first X5 40i test drive, I was disappointed in its performance and had to go back and re-read the specs and then come to grip as to why it felt slower. |

I was a Fiat owner. Once. I lost that craving somewhere in the Pyrenees. Permanently.

@Pro55 the stelvio im getting is also the ferrari derived engine. Your friend may be in the minority with crazy mad problems like that. Id be pissed and itd be hard to stick with the car. Im pretty confident since the my stelvio will be either the 4th or 5th year production run.
There are a lot of great performance crossover/SUV out there and i cant be any more excited and happy with my choice. Quick background - the reason we went with the 40i is because of the 3rd row, we thought we needed it when our 2nd son was born. I thought the x5 was the best choice, and i still think so. I wouldnt have been any happier or any more satisfied with say, the durango or telluride. Wify says we need a car with height so, the stelvio quadrifoglio it is. I am impatiently waiting... lol like a kid in the candy store |

Guess im going for broke... 😂
The thing with the macan gts is, its a performance model and its 2020 but it has sub 400 HP and Torque(330ish for torque i think???). I wouldnt want to own the x3 m long term because frankly i actually dont think its a good looking car, far from ugly and also just not really feeling the car. I know the pros and cons pretty well. At the end of the day, the feeling the car gives back to you is tremendous. I hope its not a complete piece of crap and with proper maintenance hopefully itll last and prove i got lucky. |

Yes you are right. My friend had a first year production run, in fact first few months if i remember correctly. They are now further down the run and hopefully have learnt a lot of the initial problems. They were mainly electric . Kept going into limp home mode or reduced power. The actual engine itself is awesome. Good luck and im sure you will enjoy. |

My folks feel the same. After owning multiple X5s but skipping the F15 generation because it was numb and disconnected, they finally got into a loaded M sport G05 since the E70 was just getting too old. The G05 does some typical X5 stuff well like having plenty of space for a family and your groceries, having a good driving position, good tech, etc. The Tartufo Individual interior pops too.
However the driving experience is basically crap, and anybody claiming otherwise has never owned an E53 or E70 generation X5. Yes the powertrain and chassis are good, but the car is so damn floaty it feels like an old Cadillac DTS and literally makes you nauseous. Even the poor dog starts crying after an hour in that car. The steering feels completely removed from the road to the point its disconcerting. Even small steering inputs cause body roll throughout the cabin. They have a Porsche Cayenne loaner for their other car and it's night and day. This will be their last X5. If one is content with a boring driving SUV then may as well get a Range Rover Sport, at least it looks trendy AF and isn't as common.
