I agree Alan, Dravit grey on G05 would be interesting especially at $1080 SABI pricing and standard build time. Too bad Dravit was dropped for MY21 M340i's.

Now if new G30 colors options were available:

o Bernina Grey Amber Effect (new color) - looks close to Grigio Telesto Pearl but lighter
o Individual Aventurin Red Metallic - could be close to Ametrin but more red

That grey is fire!

I’ll add to this being a 911 owner for the last 30 years. Porsche has always had a custom paint to sample option. We had a PCA member custom paint his 911 Welshes grape jelly in the early 90’s. The reality is hardly no one ever does custom paint. Resale value is actually worse with a custom paint to sample paint. Most of today’s 911 owners prefer to have their dealer spec their cars. Chalk white or other trendy colors satisfy most owners.

Funny because I've walked away from a Porsche because our local dealer sucks and didn't want to order a car for me. I wanted anything other than Black interior. The limited color options is also a big detractor for me to consider Tesla as well. In fact, people here are so tired of Tesla's same colors year after year that I now see a disproportionate number of Tesla's with vinyl wraps. Which I find funny that people seem reluctant to pay extra for a paint job but they seem to have no problem paying for a vinyl wrap.

Your local dealer does suck. When I ordered my 911 (God I miss her... but a house became the priority after I got married) it was simple, painless, and the dealer was happy to work with me on a custom order. That’s the experience that most people I know across the continent have had. Go find a better dealer!!!

As for colours, I did not order custom at the time because I was in love with Lapis Blue. If I’m ever in the position to order a car that doesn’t have to haul kids again, I would seriously consider the paint to order, even if it is insanely priced, because I would be keeping the car forever. I’m not making the mistake of selling my dream car a second time.

If you are leasing a Porsche or plan to upgrade to the newest model when released, as the majority of North American purchasers do, (note: nobody get offended please, this is borne out by statistics, and does not in any way represent the type of people who would be on this forum, who are statistically anomalous because we like cars as more than a status symbol), then custom colours are not worth it at all. As mentioned, they sometimes go for less than basic colours on resale, because you have to find someone who likes it. At best, you will lose the investment in the colour, because almost nobody would pay extra for it on the used market. I imagine BMW individual paint and paint to sample will be the same way: unless you find the one buyer of used cars who is willing to pay more for something unique, your investment is gone.

Tl:dr: only get individual paint or paint to sample if it is worth it for you for however long you own the car, because that money ain’t gonna be recouped.

...As an aside, I am always amazed when I see Porsche’s ordered with combinations like bright blue or green paint and bright red leather interiors... I can only imagine how hard those must be to resell!

How do we know, as there simply isn't a choice, so no data can be produced to justify it.

If there were lots of different base colour options not costing a fortune to spec, and people were not choosing them, then I'd agree, but when you don't offer the options you can't say they wouldn't be chosen.

Just because some doped up & depressed BMW employee hates colour in their life is not a reason to force everyone else into a depressive state.

Those Porsche custom color costs are nuts when a full vehicle wrap is 3-5k.

As for me, I could see Individual San Marino Blue on an LCI M5 if something happened to my car. Yum.

Alot of folks complaining about a lack of colors, yet when push comes to shove order a white/black car. Imagine that.

Model T owners complained about black too, but, really, that's all they ordered....

To be fair, BMW is not unique. MB GLE 450 color palette:

Audi Q7:

Standard Cayenne:

But at least there are some silvers, red-ish, and tan-ish in their stock. And BMW does have green-ish.

Fairly sure you can custom order a bmw in any historical color they have produced maybe w a few exceptions but at a premium. I have considered doing this for steel gray, which is one of the best colors bmw has ever created. The individual colors are a few hand picked options that can be selected at a small price premium over standard colors

Not for any vehicle made in Spartanburg, they can only be painted in the colors that have been established as either standard, priority 1 or individual.

Which is strange given that any back alley paint shop can paint your vehicle in any color you want. But at BMW, only the folks in Germany know how to mix liquids from different buckets?

My guess is that doing true individual colors would cause havoc to the production scheduling and dramatically decrease output. By offering limited individual colors they can group the work so changeovers are reduced. You would think they would have built facilities to handle the individual painting but it doesn't seem like it.

I personally don't think they want individual colors because it hurts resell value. It is about protecting the brand.

They have to completely clear out that paint line to do an individual color and then do the same to switch back. Spartanburg wasn't setup to do that from the outset. So with these new colors, it sounds like they'll be doing them in batches as long as customers who order them are ok waiting a little longer for their color's batch to come around.

Do you know which colors will be added in the Fall? I really like the Donington grey available only on the M models and curious if any lighter grey will be added to the other X5 models?

Assuming there is no way to get that Donington grey on an X5 M50i?

I am considering a new color for my X6M. I saw a Dravit Grey Metallic on my local lot and I like the color. I stole the pick below from the web. It is Grigio Telesto in a wrap. For you guys that are familiar with BMW individual colors, how close would you say the pic is to the true to actual color of BMW Grigio Telesto Metallic and is Dravit Gray close to the same? The BMW visualizer shows Grigio to my eyes more of a grey/brown.

X5/6/7 are back on the Individual Visualizer page (https://visualizer.bmw-individual.com/). In addition to the three colors from OP, they're also showing Petrol Mica, Ruby Red, Avus Blue and British Racing Green. Not quite the same as an official announcement, but it's nice to see a real red and green on there.
