Buy Back
BMW NA informed me on today that they will buy back my car. I'm to be contacted by the local dealership tomorrow. Has anyone been through this process? Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help.

My experence
I had a 2001 7 series that BMW bought back it was like an ugly divorce. I had to sign documents that I would not disclose this to anyone. I had to go to the dealership after they closed. I felt like the I was the one that had committed the cardinal sin. I did not use the Lemon Law I guess in hindsight I was very aggressive because the car stayed in the shop for longer than I got to drive it. And guess what it was over software issue just like with the new X5 I am driving

I've done it twice. Received what I paid less a charge for mileage driven.

Sorry to hear that you're going through this. Like someone said, it is a little unsettling - kinda like a divorce.
Have done it once on a 2012 550xi that suffered from the infamous "Drivetrain Malfunction" issue which affected the V8. As I recall we got every penny back that was put into the car (I had added a 3M clearbra to the car). I also used the experience to negotiate the extended warranty pricing down based on that experience. <edit> What are you planning to do for your replacement vehicle? You should have strong negotiating leverage with your current deal to re-earn your business should you be buying another BMW!

Thank you. I hope they give me all of my $ back. I was thinking of just getting a replacement X5. I do like the vehicle...when it works. :-). I agree I should be able to negotiate a good deal!

If I had the opportunity you’re getting I would run from the BMW dealer like I ripped them off. This X5 is a major step backwards. I am glad that I only have 30 more months with it.

My buyback experience has been more inline to the previous posters describing a messy divorce. In Georgia, the customer chooses either an identical replacement vehicle, or repurchase based on a standard formula of money spent minus a standard offset for use. After 47-days in the shop, the SM at my dealer hung up on me because I chose repurchase over haggling with him over a lesser optioned replacement. My X5 has been serviced for various issues such as windshield wipers not working, screens blacking out, error messages, leaks from the sunroof etc... I tried working with my dealer, followed by BMW NA, prior to getting an attorney due to the great experience we've had with our 2017 X5. Now I have an attorney and BMW is still dragging their feet with offers resembling an initial purchase negotiating situation. From the get-go, all I have requested was a repurchase or replacement inline with Georgia lemon law provisions, nothing more and nothing less. This experience has us seriously considering getting rid of our 2017 X5 as well just to be done with BMW all together.

I agree. Can’t wait to get out of my lease. What an abysmal failure.

Thank you EbonyReader. Congrats on getting yours squared away. Hopefully my situation will be resolved sooner rather than later. I started this whole process 7 weeks ago and still unresolved.
