Android Auto Issues
I decided to create a thread where we could summarize ussues with AA. After updating yesterday to 07/2020.48 i got AA but for now already noticed:
- each times it connects , changes my mobile phone theme to white version instead of dark version - even if messages notification turned on it still notifies me about new sms and shows from whom etc - only works with Bluetooth and wifi turned on so i imagine battery drain will be very noticeable - not many apps available. Just Maps, Waze, phone, calendar, Spotify, tune in radio, podcasts and weather and news to listen. Anyone knoe more apps worth to install that will work with AA? - AA in HUD is no so good quality like the bmw built in navigation |

How are you manually connecting it? I have the latest version but don't see anything for android auto. My phone shows up with android auto but the radio never sees it.

Google just announced a fix is coming for Android Auto. It says Pixel but that is typically how it works, Pixel first rest later. Not sure if it will fix all the issues here but mine and the wife's works fine for us.

2. What's the issue there? 3. Battery drain isn't bad depending on your phone. I'm using a OnePlus 8 Pro 4. That's not an issue and is just part of who wants to make apps work for AA 5. They did a good job integrating it into the HUD/cluster. They are still limited due to how the data is coming from your phone vs native in the car. Unlike Audi you can actually see it in the HUD which is a big win on its own

You can manually enable it on either from the AA settings. I have a OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 8 Pro. It works on both just fine sans the usual Android 11 issues on my 8 Pro (nothing to do with AA itself) I can explain if you'd like.

Do you mean enabling Wireless Android Auto in the settings? If so, then I have done that, but the car just refuses to connect. Phone says continue on car, while car thinks for a while and says "Connection failed. Please check the Bluetooth and WiFi settings on your mobile device". Same message on Pixel 4.

Here a video demonstrating how: Maybe that resolves it. Also I could only enable it when being parked (safety reasons). |

Yes, that's what I've done. Again, the phone thinks everything is connected correctly and directs to the car, while the car fails.

I've also noticed that the voice direction with AA/Google Maps is clearer and more distinct than BMW's native Nav voice, and I think this is separate from the media sound system (I have B&W).

When my Samsung s20 plus is connected to the car via WiFi it seems to kill incoming messages, WhatsApp and emails. Android Auto needs the WiFi connection and automatically turns it on as it connects. Not sure if there is a way to force the phone to use mobile data connection while WiFi is connected to car?
Any thoughts? |
