40i Door Sills

Thanks in advance to those who can help me out here.

On a M Sport 40i, the door sill scuff plate is lighted front and back with the M logo.
What does this look like on an X Drive vehicle? Are there door sill scuff plates that light up but show and “X” instead?

In regards to 40i, no it lights up "BMW"

There are 9 styles for the illuminated front door mucket/trim and 4 styles for the rear door mucket/trim across X5/6 models.

Front:
1. BMW - xLine models
2. BMW Individual - xLine with Merino
3. /// ///M //// - M Sport
4. /// ///M50i /// - M50i
5. /// ///M50d /// - M50d
6. — X5 ///M —
7. — X5 ///M Competition —
8. — X6 ///M —
9. — X6 ///M Competition —

Rear:
1. BMW - xLine models
2. BMW Individual - xLine with Merino

The BMW ones will light in different colors depending on lighting conditions. I believe it’s orange at night and white during the day. The M Sports do not change color. There is an unused pin on the connector presumably for the unused second color.

Has anyone replaced a front trim - I'm referring to the metal light-up strip?

I'd like to be sure how to do it before I dive in heavy-handed.

Very easy. They just pry out with a plastic trim tool. Super easy.

I have a complete set of "BMW" trim if anyone is interested from my 2019 X5 40iX.

Are they unmarked as mine are pretty scuffed up , price and postage to uk ?

I replaced my driver’s side front one for about $75 US I believe. It is clear coated, so if you can get it out to work on, you may be able to buff out the scratches depending on severity. I have the original to play with now so I may try it at some point.

What is the part number for the front M Sport one (#3 on your front list above)? I scratched mine up and want to replace it. I took pictures of the part number on it (see attached) but can’t find it anywhere. This is for 2021 X5 45e if it makes any difference.

According to Bimmercat, it comes as a pair. Yes it is exactly the one in the photo you posted. The numbers on the part is missing the 51-47 portion and the 8-069-271 matches exactly.

It's just the insert and not the cover strip which is:

Left - 51477479935
Right - 51477479936

Not sure where they're getting their part description but that is the ONLY M sport sill listed in the parts database and it should light up from ambient lighting unit in the cover strip. Call your dealer part to confirm.

Thanks for the info. I think the quantities that Bimmercat shows is the total number of that particular part installed in the car (left and right are the same, hence 2) but each part is sold individually. For example, cover strips are listed with the quantity of 1 because left and right are different; clips have 22 because there are 22 of them for the front and rear on the left and right sides.

All the sill plates should be illuminated. What trim is your sDrive? xLine or M Sport? What interior leather upholstery option did you select - SensaTec, Vernasca or Merino?

Let's say you have a sDrive xLine then your sill plates are No. 3 - BMW

Interesting, as I stated in my previous post - that they "should" be illuminated but I wasn't certain that all will. From my experience Individual, M Sport and above are and thank for providing a data point for sDrive xLine owners.
