X6 LCI Spotted With Surprise Upgrade to i4 iDrive System and Loses Gear Shifter
The G06 X6 LCI has begun development and in these first shots we see it with a surprise upgrade to the upcoming i4's double screen system. The traditional gear shifter has also been nixed in favor of a gear toggle switch.
Of course, this means that the G05 X5 LCI will also feature the same upgrade. This particular prototype appears to be testing the new iDrive system only and no exterior changes are yet in place. Compare to spy shot of the i4 prototype's interior:

looks like they're following in Mercedes footsteps and using a dual LCD to look as one continuous screen. Can't wait to see what the final configuration looks like.
Also looks like they did away with the gear selector and using a toggle button instead - interesting. |

It’s hard to believe that BMW would design such a terrible screen for the gauges and idrive info.
It sucks that the G87 M2 will most likely deput with this new layout in 2022 based on the info that ynguldyn posted. https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1798195 |

This is the future. I am surprised that so many would simply dismiss it without even seeing how it works?? Give BMW a chance, and check it out before making a conclusion. |

Arrrgh. I freaking hate the push button shifter in my wife's Honda Pilot. Can't get used to it...have to look down every time. Why is this a trend?

Agreed soon there won't be a button or switch, it will all be in the screen and then voice controlled. However I for one was super happy with BMW's persistence of allowing the user to choose, example all the nanny's can be turned off and I can just drive it.. My only hope is they leave the M cars alone and let buyers have an options of still driving for the sake of driving.... Only time will tell on that though..

everybody please keep in mind the reason BMW, Mercedes and Audi have very similar infotainment hardware is not because they are copying eachother, it is most likely because it is developed by the same company.

So the old MBux dash and a Porsche shift knob. Nice.
I'm just gonna choose to believe this is just an unfinished model. I don't see them changing the iD7 setup already because this is a step in the wrong direction. |
